what kinda recording gear do i need?

ok heres the deal.

my band is looking into getting some recording gear. were thinking analogue 8 track. i dont really wanna layer or do anything to fancy. so i needs to know:

what kinda mic is good for recording guitar? (electric), and same question for bass and drums.

and

what are some analogue 8 tracks i could check out. i dont know **** all about recording so help me out!

also any and all general recording tips are welcome

that's kinda cool yer into analog 8 tracks. I bought a fostex cassette tape 8 track many moons ago for like $800, now you can get it on ebay for like $150-200. they say you can't run a hot signal into it to get the tape compression like wider tape, but I think you can. my recordings were very warm compared to a computer.

for recording guitar an sm57 shoved right up on the grill of your speaker cabinet is usually a good place to start. not sure about bass or drum mics. if you don't get enough responses here try:

im not familiar with what you mean by "tape compression". elaborate?
