of course I want the flat bottoms.......but do I want the tops to be angled? I mean......I guess not? Does this make sense?

the only reason for arched pickup rings is to fit an arch top guitar
your tele isn't arch top is it


if its one of those special runs with the set neck and arch top
no pickguard dual humbuckers

then you may need the arch ones
depends on the amount of arch

meh... i have one tele by your criteria and a handful of other tele shaped guitars. although i do like the option to do that, its not quite the same as having the bridge pup screwed to the bridge itself

Arched and angled are two different things. The arch is the bottom, as you said, for archtop guitars. The angle is the top and depending on the type of bridge and neck angle, will dictate whether he needs flat or angled. With a standard Tele bridge or Strat hardtail, or even a recessed tune-o-matic, flat top rings will be best. If the neck has an angle to it like a Les Paul, or SG due to a standard mount tune-o-matic, then you want angled pickup rings to compensate for that neck angle to keep the pickups lined up straight with the strings.
