What pickup was Vivian Campbell using here? (Dio era)

I think the full shred was not developed yet at that time, and it doesn't look like an invader pickup (normal polepieces).

I also heard he used duncan distortions and dimarzio super distortions back then, but in the video it sounds more like a low output pickup, it has a lot of clarity and detail that you can't really get from high output pickups. (and it can't be a super distortion cause the polepieces look flat, unlike the dimarzio SD which has the sunken in polepieces)

curious what he used back then, killer tone!

You seem to be making a lot of assumptions here.

First, 90% of that sound is the amp, not the pickups.

Second, they probably ARE high output pickups. Around that time, he was using pickups like the Super Distortion, X2N, and SD Invaders.

My memory says he used a Duncan Distortion around that time.

Would fit sound and looks here, it can have good clarity, especially in a tremolo block guitar. In any case, it'll probably get the job done of reproducing this sound given the right after-pickups chain.
