What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

HSS:
Pegasus, JB Jr. Neck, Hot Rails Neck
Used to be Sceamin Demon, SSL-2, JB Jr. Neck.
Tons of switching options on this one and the main ones are fine but still looking for better.
The SSL-2 didn't sound good in there*
The Demon and JB Jr. Neck in the neck did sound killer.

HSH (Floyded basswood EBMM Silhouette):
DiMarzio The Breed Neck in the bridge, Stock OEM DiMarzio, Stock PAF Pro in the neck.
Love, love, love it!

I have other ideas/tricks up my sleeve but few around here seem to like my taste in pickups. ;)

(*) probably because of the basswood body and old original Edge trem with the chrome worn from the saddles, could also be the reason why the split and parallel modes on the single-sized humbucker sound like garbage, but I don't like any of the other demos I've heard either.

The guitar in my avatar has an A4 JB with A2 spacers, an A5 Phat Cat, and an A3 Seth/Ant hybrid. It has too much tone!

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

My HSS Strat has a set of Fokin Hot Breeze pups....
Can’t say enough good about them. Plus his customer service is phenomenal.

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

My Westone Spectrum LX is a HSH with a JB in the bridge, GFS Lil Killer center, and Jazz Neck. I really love the JB/Jazz set... just a great all-purpose set of pups that sound great for a ton at different applications. I had a Hot Stack in the center (avatar pic) but it was too quiet in comparison to the buckers so I swapped it for the GFS Lil Killer (SC-sized rail humbucker) which is substantially hotter. Still gives good “quack” in the notch positions with the p’ups split.

I have a HSH project in the works right now which is going to wind up being HSS or SSS... haven’t decided on the bridge pup yet. It’s gonna have a GFS Mean 90 in the neck, the Hot Stack that used to be in “the Phoenix” in the center, and either a GFS VEH (Vintage Extra Hot humbucker) or a GFS Mean 90 in the bridge.

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

I wrote a blog about the HSS setup I used. You can read about my pickup choices, and what pickups I used here.

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

In my MIJ Jackson Dinky: Lace Deathbucker (b), lil Screamin Demon (m), Hot Rails (n). Perfectly balanced..sounds incredible. This is my most played axe for some reason..

In my Cort X6 SA - Duncan Blackouts (h-s-h). Sounds ok..but I'm thinking of other options for this one..passive options.

A set of handwound A4 "Seventh Sin" pups from Chris Carter/Sin Pickups (lil Screamin Demon in the middle) in my '94 Ibby S-540ltd.

Cort X6 VPR: Blackout Metal (b), Blackout single (m) & regular Blackout (n). The Blackout Metal in the bridge kinda over-powers the neck pup (volume-wise) even with it set way down low almost level with the top of it's pick-up ring. I may need to try and put a regular Blackout bridge pup in the neck to try and balance things better..I've heard that works..

A Lace Deathbucker in the bridge of my Ibby SA...(two handwound Alnico 5 pups from Rose pickups in the middle/neck). They sound fantastic in all pickup configurations..the singles are very stratty ..great match!

My Charvel Traditional Pro came stock with a Custom 5 in the bridge & Coolrails/Hotrails in the middle & neck respectively..love the way it sounds!

My old heavily modded/restored Ibby DT-250 Destroyer has a Dimarzio X2N in the bridge & FastTrack/Chopper in in the middle/neck. Very chunky & cool!

..& that's it...my other axes are mostly H-H or something else...

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

I'm about to swap some pickups for a client. He wants a Screamin Demon neck, SLS-1 Lipstick in the middle, and a Jerry Donahue in the bridge. It should be interesting to say the least. He's asking me to throw in a Stetsbar and replace the two tone controls with Varitones.

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

I do not own any HSH guitars, minus ones that have strat sized humbuckers in the neck position

HSS configured guitars:

2004 MIM Fender Strat: Dimarzio FRED, Fender US single coil, GFS 6k Lil' Killer
2015 MIM Fender Strat: Duncan Custom Custom w/Roughcast mag, SSL-1, SSL-1
1988 Kramer F3000: Duncah 59/Custom Hybrid, Stock kramer single coil, Duncan Hot Rails

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

2017 Keissel DC 135 Perpetual Burn Bridge Keisel AP11 singles neck and middle. REALLY versatile set up with GREAT stratty tones in Pos 2-5 Burn is set to auto tap in pos 2 and sounds like it was made for this guitar. GREAT Pickup combo here
Fender Modern Player Pine Body Tele and all Duncans 59/Custom hybrid AP II middle AP Tele neck. Another super versitile set up with the killer harmonics of the Hybrid Strat tones in 2 -4 and a really nice Tele neck tone. Dead heat between it and the Keisel for most usable versatile tones.
1995 Wasburn USA MG 120 SSL 1's neck and middle JB Bridge. Solid traditional 90's Super strat!
1992 Washburn USA MG104 59 neck Custom single middle Custom 8 bridge. Set up to auto tap the buckers in pos 2 and 4 really nice versitile solid rock guitar.

Ok, here are mine:

Fender Prodigy II HSS: Duncan JB with the stock ceramic single coils. Sounds beautiful.
Jackson Adrian Smith SDX: DiMarzio Super Distortion, Fender MiM ceramic, old Duncan Hot Rails, neck and middle wired to split with push pull pot.
Fender Standard Stratocaster (technically SSS): Hot Rails bridge, stock MiM ceramic, Cool Rails neck. Push-push pot to split the rails.

Re: What pickups do you have in your HSH and HSS axes?

I have a few but they're all standard/stock arrangements so that's uninteresting. The only totally non-standard HSS I use is:

BGPups BGBucker Bridge
ToneClone Mayer Big Dipper clones in Neck and Middle. (non RWRP)

The Tone Clones came from an apparently defunct company called Tonic Guitars. Superb pickups and strangely they work extremely well with 500k pots. That was my really big win. The set fits together VERY well.

This is in my Ibanez SA1260.
