Any good PAF style pickup will get you in the ball park (59's, Seth Lovers, Pearly Gates, Antiquities even Alnico II Pro's) but the key to that tone is the neck pickup has to be out of phase with the neck. It's a fairly simple mod, you can do a search on this forum about the "Peter Green mod" and get all the details. If you are interested the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop sells a Peter Green humbucker set that are already set up and ready to go but they are much more expensive than a standard off the shelf set of pickups.

just turn your gain knob all the way up on your amp and all your pedals, and wank on thoughtlessly forever.

i have the out tone mode cos my guitar is wiried accordin jimmi page model on the sd wiring page ,it was a lot of work cos the 2 humbuckers are splitted parralele and out of tone !
do you think the pearly gates is good choice between the 59 bridge and the sh4?

Re: what sd pick up to sound like gary moore

I believe that Gary's sig model used the the Burst Bucker 1 & 2

Use a Gibson DirtyFingers for gary moore sound..

are sure i'm just lookin for harmony central or other site thies pu seem very good but with a lot of output level it compare with the bl xl500,emg 81,invader!!for the blues :eyecrazy:

Re: what sd pick up to sound like gary moore

I've never used one, sorry mate can't comment on it. I've got an A2Pro in an Epiphone Black Beauty and it would do a good Moore sound which is why I mentioned it.
It's a great pickup for that sort of lead tone.
If I'm looking for a pickup that's NOT for metal, but still great for leads, I think of my A2P.

I'm looking to try a Dirty Fingers soon. I was actually just joking about using it for a Gary Moore sound... you know.. his album "Dirty Fingers" :biglaugh:

I have tried the Burstbucker 1 and 2 set in an SG and Les Paul, and didn't care for it. However, my needs are alot differen't than yours, for the blues they would probley sound great.

Goodluck.

:bigthumb:bravo i have been caught in the trap by you private joke.in fact i'm not a true fan of gary i only knows the blues period not the thin lizzy and solo rock period!

Re: what sd pick up to sound like gary moore

A pair of Seths would probably get you close, as would a Jazz in the neck for that smooth neck tone he has sometimes.

Re: what sd pick up to sound like gary moore

Gary's signature line Les Paul when initially released used Gibson Burstbucker PAF style HB's with Alnico II magnets. There are a few pup winders that do a Gary Moore or Peter Green wind: Jason Lollar of Lollar Guitars, Jim Wagner of WCR pups, and I understand that the Seymour Duncan custom shop has wound several Peter Green/Gary Moore sets as well.

Re: what sd pick up to sound like gary moore

If you're talking about companies other than Duncan for suggestions, Gary Moore himself uses a set of PG Blues pickups from Bareknuckle. So that may be a decent starting point if you're able to up the cost a bit :)
