What Should I Do?

Hey all,

I wouldn't mind some of your opinions on what you would do or think I should do in my current situation.

I recently was able to snag a 40th Anniversary USA Strat in excellent condition for a killer price. It is a really cool metallic blue/green, with maple fretboard. Although I have been sorta GASing for a Start recently I'm not sure I see a fit for it within my music. I love the lead and clean tones I can get from it but most of my band's music is based around my heavy, high gain rhythm playing, which I cannot achieve with the SC's in a strat. It would be a nice additon to my aresenal for those occassional songs that require that shimmer etc but I am having a hard time justifying my most expensive guitar being one I rarely play. This is where my predicament arises, do I keep this beauty of an instrument for those fairly rare occasions, or do I sell/trade towards something more suited towards my needs?

Please give me your input.

p.s. Does anyone know what the current used value of this guitar would be? I've searched recent eBay auctions but the prices vary from $500-$1000+ on the anniversary models and most of those are black. Does the color make it more or less valuable?

Thanks in advance.

How's it routed under the pickguard? I got rid of the Fender Iron Maiden Strat without realizing I could've just gotten a new pickguard routed for buckers. I learned that little trick from Xssive....who eventually got the Iron Maiden Strat from the guy I sold it to.

if you're not desperate for a new peice of gear, hold on to it!

not having a style of guitar as distinctive as a strat handy when you want one is like an itch you can't scratch :laugh2:

I think that as long as you have one or two guitars that DO suit your musical needs for the heavy gain or what have you, i think you should hang on to that Strat. It may grow on you over time and you may be opened up to a whole new spectrum of what you can add to your music, and that Strat may be the whole reason. Plus, with it being a 40th Anniversary model, i'd say you'll have quite a collectors item 20-25 years down the road.

p.s. - 6 years ago i bought an aged Alpine White '88 Les Paul Studio with gold hardware for $400 from an old man who wanted booze money. Although i'm a Fender guy, i hung on to that Paul for a couple years then traded it for an acoustic that i ended up giving to my dad. See... that guitar didn't really fit my tastes, but i do deeply regret getting rid of it just because it was really a nice guitar and it was something a little different that added a little something more to what i'm used to. And, it'll probably be the only real Gibson i'll ever own!!

just get a new guard and a hum of your choice and there you have it...useless strat (for your style) turned into useful strat!

The idea of just tossing a bucker in the bridge had also crossed my mind. I'll have to check under that guard.

+1 If you think it`s a good player you should get a new pickguard and
put a Hb in the bridge:)
EDIT: It`s a 90`s strat and have a universal routing
