What should I get next?

So, I've kinda decided to sell my CIJ 57 RI strat b/c it's not really floatin my boat. I'd either have to get a new neck or re-fret it and I don't really wanna molest such a nice guitar. That, plus the fact that my carvin dc135 pretty much fits the strat role in my arsenal, makes me wanna ditch the fender. I'm gonna order another carvin, the cs6 to be exact, but I want a dedicated metal axe for detuning.

I'm kinda leaning towards the iceman ict700:http://www.sweetwater.com/guitargallery/electric/all/s211P01080210528/

I haven't played one, but I spent a little time with an rg that had the same neck and it would work for my needs.

I need some other suggestions for a good metal type guitar. I want one with preferably a 25.5in scale and jumbo frets. I also don't want a FR, b/c I don't use a whole lot of whammy stuff and I'll be using different tunings. I'd also prefer something under a $1000 and if I can find a good used one, even better.

A G&L, Invader can be had with a hardtail bridge. You would have to find a used one to be under your $1000 limit.

Regards.

Re: What should I get next?

Don't you have a couple Les Paul copies? Gibson-type guitars are superb for downtuning.

Barring that I have a Warmoth Strat that i used to leave tuned to B. It has tiny frets but a chunky neck...for the cash you're talkin about spending, I'll paint it any color you want and ship it straight to your house, loaded with your favorite pickups :smokin:

That Iceman would be sweet, i've liked them since SOAD was using 'em in like 98/99...never really played many tho.

I know a guy who uses a Telecaster tuned to B...stock single coils and stuff. HEAVY is the only word for it.

Yes I have a cpl LP copies. My epi is mainly for standard and 1/2 step down. It's got a jb/jazz set so it's not too metal. I don't like the jb for anything lower than drop Db. My agile is setup for drop c, but I have to have 12's to keep decent string tension. The 12's combined with that god awful neck heel means the guitar is mainly a rythm axe. Don't get me wrong, it's heavy as hell (weight and sound) but anything above the 15th fret is useless.

I want the extra scale lenght so that I don't have to put retarded gauges on it b/c I play with a lighter touch and wanna be able to shred some downtuned shiz.

SSS, I like those deans, but I don't like Floyds too much. I don't do a whole lotta whammy stuff, so I'd rather forgoe the hassle of owning/setting up a FR.

Schecter makes a pretty solid guitar in that price range, and a lot of their stuff is more "geared" towards hard rock and metal.

I've been eyeballing schecters too. I like these so far:http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Devil-Custom-Electric-Guitar?sku=515763

I dunno about that headstock tho, it's a little much.

The duncans make this one pretty attractive.

What are the necks on scheters like? Ibanez necks are pretty "shreddy" which is cool, but I usually like a little chunkier feel.

edit: This one looks pretty cool/unique:http://www.samash.com/catalog/showi...=Department&GroupCode=&categorysubsearch=true

Buck the trend, mang.

Get a used Am Std Tele and slap a Hot Rails in the bridge and a Cool Rails in the neck.

The Iceman is a prety radical departure form the Strat. Sure you aint gonna miss the Strat-tones? If you want something that absolutlely rawks , yet will get some great Strat-tones, check my avatar-. H-S-S.

Or, instead of down tuning all the time just get a 7 string.

I would totally love a 7 string, but the majority of the metal I listen to is downtuned 6 strings. A 7 string would make transcribing kinda blow. That plus I've never played one and think that xt string would just screw me up. Maybe I'm wrong, I'll try one out next chance I get and see how it goes.

I've already got the HSS covered with my carvin dc135. It can do strat tones if needed, and it is my #1. That is at least until I finally order a cs6. I know the iceman is a complete 180 from a 57 strat, but I love that shape. Right now, I'm debating b/t a schecter c-1 the one with the blackouts, and the iceman. I have to go to Samash and play some more RG's with the wizard II neck and see if it fits me. Last time I went to Samash and GC, they didn't have any icemen in and none of the salesmen thought they were gonna order any.
