I have absolutely NO experience on the field, owning no single coil gitars (will soon, though), and I have no background that makes my advice worthy, but I do think that having a single coil Alnico 2, with the SD Pickup Booster Pedal.
Then again, don't take my advice, unless someone else knows if it will work. I have no experience with this at all, it just sounds like an idea to me.

To really nail Slash's neck lead tones you need a traditional twin coil humbucker. Something like a Lil '59 or Cool Rails will get you in the zone output-wise but it won't be quite the same because it has a narrower view of the string. Backing off the guitar tone knob might help a bit.
