What The Heck Should I Do With My Legacy???

Alright, so above you'll see a pic of my G&L Legacy and a awesome sounding Stacked guard that I made up of a STK-S6 in the bridge, a Classic Stack in the middle, & a STK-S2N in the neck. I built it with the intention of dropping it into said Legacy. Then I played it....

First of all the reason I decided to take this project on wasn't because I didn't like the way the guitar sounded, it's actually a great sounding guitar as is! I bought it about 2 years ago, had a pro setup done, and stuck it in it's case & under the stars. It's hard to tell from the pics but the guitar has a beautiful dark blue burst thing going on & because it plays & looks so good I sorta got scared I'd scratch it or something? I normally love beat to hell guitars but this one isn't a very good candidate for relicing! My thoughts went like this, if I put some new pickups in it I'll be compelled to play it more often, @ least until I get bored with it anyway?

I guess I'd forgotten how good the stock puppies sound, I plugged it in the other day and it really tossed a wrench into plans! Now I'm trying to decide if I should just keep it stock & figure out something else to do with the stacks, use the Stacked guard and harness I built while saving the complete P.T.B. system & stock pickups so it can be changed back in less than 20 minutes if need be, or if I should just use the STK-S6 Plus in the bridge running off the P.T.B. system and keeping the stock middle & neck pup's but the P.T.B. system is made up of 1Meg pots & I'm not sure how the STK-S6 is going to sound running off it? It could add bite & tighten up the bottom end or it could just get super bright?

This is one of those what would you do if you were me questions, please help me make up my mind!!!

Oh, that red guard was just for mock up & so I could try it out hooked up to my beater Stratocaster. The guard on the Legacy is there to stay, they're pretty hard to come by aftermarket. I think you actually have to send yours in to be traced or some such thing? Anyway, the knobs and switch tip will match the pickups if they go in but the white pearl isn't going anywhere...

I love the G&L PTB wiring. I reckon it'd be worth giving the STK-S6 a shot first as having 1 meg pots won't necessarily cause the same issues as with traditional wiring due to the way it's configured. I currently have my Legacy with Ant Surfers and the PTB and it sounds great

Re: What The Heck Should I Do With My Legacy???

I love Legacys and have many of them. I also have Comanches, S-500s and Legacy Specials. Same guitar, different pickups. The Z-Coils are humbuckers with a distinct single coil clarity. The single coil MFDs of the S-500 are hot and wide range, making the guitar a strat on steroids. The Gotoh Dual Blades on the LS have a thick, PAF-ish tone. And the cool thing with these guitars, the hotter pickups work even better in the PTB system. So no worries there.

I like the vintage tones from the stock Legacy, so usable for so many styles. A couple of mine have the Texas Hot Antiquity sets, and I love these too, but very different than the stock pickups, very rich and juicy.

If you like the tones from the stock pickups but need a little more oomph, try using a clean boost. It's my secret weapon! (OOPS!) :)

Keep it stock and play it!!!
