What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

I saw a VMNT on the Dean site and it advertised this pickup. A quick google search lead to a Dean echo chamber. What is this pickup? TIA...

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

Don't quote me on this, this is purely speculation, but it might be a slightly modified JB. I base this off the fact that it is paired with a 59n and Mustaine was also known for using a Jazz/JB set. SD has been known to rename certain pickups and change them slightly for certain companies, just look at the Solar set.

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

The Thrash Factor is an OEM pickup we build for Dean. It's similar (but not identical) spec-wise to a JB.

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

Is this a re-branding of his Passive Aggressor pickups that popped up earlier this year or are they different?

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

I am headed to the Dean factory (it is about 30 mins away from me) for a big shindig there in November, so I will try to play with one there.

It's the same pickup, I believe we ran into an issue with using the previous name.

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

Too bad, Passive Aggressor was a great name

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

I've been wondering about this myself...

Is it a JB wind with a degaussed A5, perhaps? Has the core JB wind been modifed? Maybe both? :)

I'm super curious to know what he went with after years of using his signature LiveWire actives!

EDIT: I just remembered this tweet from SD's NAMM Show updates...

"with Passive Aggressor pickups replicating Dave's aged JB humbucker."

Perhaps something like the "Antiquity" JB or maybe the 35th Anniversary version?

You're pretty close to the mark. There is a difference in the winding process, but unfortunately that's all I can say at this time.

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

lol no wonder the passive aggressor name didn't last, that's pretty much what chapman propietary pickups are called

Thrash Factor sounds cool but these names could had been cool kinda fun and reference dave's career at the same time

Seymour Duncan RattledHead

Seymour Duncan Chosen One

Seymour Duncan Humbucker 18

Seymour Duncan Bucker of Souls

Seymour Duncan Shadow of Deth

Seymour Duncan Hum Crusher

Seymour Duncan Humwrecker

Seymour Duncan Fatal Humbucker

I think that the "thrash factor" pups are on the lower priced Deans. Pretty sure Dave is still using his SD Livewires.

Thanks for the clarification. Nice to hear from someone on the inside! As for me, I LOVE my JBs and will stick with them except in my VMNTs ;)

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

Humbucker 18 would have been great.

Seymour Duncan Darkest Hour
Seymour Duncan Polaris
Seymour Duncan Holy War (this one makes me kinda laugh, because some might think it controversial, and would never believe Duncan would do it)

Seymour Duncan Conjuring
Seymour Duncan architect of aggression
Seymour Duncan Phsychotron

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

SD said on twitter that it was going to be available to buy, oh well. Is it still made in the US or does it fall under Duncan Designed? All the pictures of Dave I've seen from their latest shows show his new guitars with the livewires; is he just waiting for them to come to market or...?

Edit: Just saw this thread is a week old, sorry about that

Re: What the hell is a Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine "Thrash Factor" pickup

Mustaine + Dean + Thrash Factor by Duncan?

Can it be bad?????

These are US-produced. They say "Seymour Duncan" right on them.

Duncan Designed is typically reserved for less expensive guitars...sub-$600 range most often.
