What to do with a P-Rail? Mag Swap?

I'm currently thinking of swapping pickups from my Charvel 750XI. I just can't stand the original Jackson pickups and have a bunch of Duncans left over.

As the Charvel has a 5 way switch, I consider my left over P-Rail (bridge version) as neck pickup as a Strat sound is currently missing and I had good results with P90 kind of pickups in superstrats.

I had the P-Rail in the neck of a Les Paul Custom and used a blend pot to blend between rail and P90. It didn't blew me away. Some guys find the bridge version to overpowerered as well.

Shall I aim for the neck version of the P-Rail or is there a chance that a magnet swap of the bridge verson (A5 to A3) will do the trick to use it in the neck?

It’s a matter of taste but I feel like the prails is pretty hot so I would use a neck one in the neck if possible. If you have a spare bridge one, I would give it a try though. Some folks have done mag swaps here with good results.

I would also turn it to have the blade closer to the neck and I personally preferred it in parallel rather than series.

yes to all of that.

you say you have a bunch of duncans, what else? a bridge prails isnt the first thing id think of to put in the neck

The bridge version of the p-rail has about 19k DCR, the P90 coil around 10k5 which would be a hot P90 even with an A2 mag, so I agree - this might be a bad idea. Not sure about using it in the bridge position as I always play full humbuckers there.

I got a Jazz, PG, JB, Alt8, Dist and 3 to 4 Single Coils.
I could try a left over DMZ Bluesbucker first before I get myself a p-rail neck.
