got a 59B and like to play metal and rock
feels like i need more gain or something tho
i want some more punch for palm mutes and stuff

maybe i should try higher gain tubes in my tube distortion pedal?
have also been thinking about trying a JB pickup in the bridge

i never got around to trying a new veteran 30 speaker
in my amp yet maybe that would improve the sound

One of those Customs would probably do, but yeah a JB would certainly do a job.

I have on in an Epi SG and it's great, but it's more vintage sounding than the Custom. You may be better off with a standard Custom. Although don't rule out the JB. It sounds brilliant in my Jackson SL3 - may favourite guitar and my favourite pup.
I don't really think you can go wrong with any of the three to be honest.

the SH-14 Custom Five has the same EQ as my 59B but is higher output

Full Shred is great for punch and palm mutes.

I don't like the JB for chunk...I'd go with something tight...like a Full Shred or an Evo or a Bill Lawrence L500XL...In that order

Experiment with 'Rock-specific' cables or try that JB, it has it's own distortion for sure.
