what wire do you guys use for wiring up??

i have totally re wired an old ish guitar up, but the wires are all individual not the kind with two wires inside a thicker wire so it is quite a mess inside their.

what wire is the best to use on a standard setup??

i also have got some CGE pots, does anyone know if they are any good??

also what difference does a different capacitor on the tone pot make?

I use the cloth covered push back wire like Seymour uses on his Strat and Tele single coils. I have spools of black and white that I keep around for wiring pickguards and what not. Lew

I have a 100' spool of 24 guage 4 conductor w/sheild wire made by Belden that I bought for $16 from a local commercial electronics supplier. I use the complete cable for re-wires on LP type guitars where you need a long sheilded run from the switch to the control cavity and pull individual strands out for short runs in the cavities.

You should be able to find the stuff at any commercial electronics retailer. The braided stuff is usually found at stewmac.com, allparts.com or other simular guitar parts sites.

I use the vintage cloth covered style wire that I get from Doug Hoffman and other sources...It's easy to work with and looks cool...

and how do I pick those wires? I mean how many ohm should they have n stuff?

Wire really should be 0 ohms. If it's more, you have a problem.

I've rewired some of my axes and I used the Carvin guitar wiring kit you can order from their catalog.

Whatever you use, make sure the wire is tinned. You don't want bare copper corroding in the control cavity.

As to your question regarding the cap, yeah, using a different value makes a difference. I read an article once, I wish I still had it, that suggested instead of using the cap that is in most electric guitar tone circuits (.47uf? I don't know the value) use a smaller value (.1uf?). I did it to a couple of guitars and I liked it. When I roll the tone knob down, instead of it sounding like wool over the speaker, it just rolls off a bit of the highest frequencies. It mellows the tone a bit without making it all muffled.

k thanks, but if there were cables with 0 Ohm that would be a nice invention... (That mean Electronics stuff I learn at school is coming through.. can't stop it)

I use the hookup wire they sell at www.smallbearelec.com. It's the easiest wire to work with that I've found. For long wire runs, such as the switch connection in a Les Paul, I recommend shielded wire.
