What would be the right gauge of string for C# standard?

By this i mean going down from E standard a whole and a half step down, I was thinking of buying a set of D'Addario 10 - 52's but I don't know if those would be the right ones, I've gotten so used to the loose feel of a regular set of 10's that i'm a little hesitant to change my string gauge at this point, i don't know why. Just a irrational fear... Anyway any suggestions?

I tune for Eb standard and Drop C# on my guitars, and I use .010-.052 because I like the low end.

I've played guitars in D standard that were strung with a standard .011 set and they felt great to me.

I'd try the Dunlop Heavy Core .011-.050 set or the .012-.054 set. I tried the .010-.048 set for my tunings and I really liked it.

11,15,22w,32,42,54,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,or if you don't like the feel of the bigger wound strings try some heavy-cores.

10-52 will handle that tuning well. I kept my
Eclipse set up that way for a long time but recently
Went back to standard

I've played C# for years, sometimes going to drop B. My go to has been Ernie Ball Power Slinky 11-48.

I also use these for my E standard guitars. They obviously feel a little lighter in the downtuning, but they feel pretty balanced on the higher strings and still give good tension and response.

What scale?

Page 6 in this pdf is the tension chart for standard D'Addario XL's. http://www.daddario.com/upload/tension_chart_13934.pdf Find the tension of the low E and high E of the set you prefer for standard, then find what gauge has the same tension at the note you are tuning to.

The chart is only full steps, but I believe 11-52 should put you in the ballpark for a similar or slightly higher tension as 9's at E standard.

I use 12-54 for Drop C on a 25.5" guitar, stiff enough to really make the bass strings bounce instead of flap.

Speaking of tension, has anyone seen a tension chart for the Dunlop Heavy Core Strings? Or any comparison to a "standard" set tension? Are any other companies doing a similar thing?

Great advice above!

I don't know what the right solution is, all I can do is to tell the one that worked for me whenever I wanted to go below D. I like the wound strings to be rather heavy while the bare wires really thin so I just slapped on a 7-string set (usually 9-52) then mounted all the low 3 strings and all the top 3 strings. As a consequence I have a collection of unused 4th (0.24) wound strings. Maybe one day I bang up an unisono axe with 024 strings only.

These days? I use a hybrid 009 (heavy bottom) set of strings and set the basement level on my Digitech Drop pedal. Not 100% perfect but functional and it does the job onstage willingly like there was no tomorrow. Now I can take my two favourite guitars for the day and just go to any gig of any of my projects without any problem.

A normal person would probably go 11-56 at the heaviest for C#.

I, however, use those in Eb and would probably use a 12-60 set if I had a guitar setup strictly for C#. I'm considering moving up to those for Eb anyway.

Re: What would be the right gauge of string for C# standard?

I play 11-50 in std tuning so id go like 12-56 but if you are used to less tension than 1-52 might be perfect

Re: What would be the right gauge of string for C# standard?

I primarily play in C#, and I use 9-46 with a wound 18 for the G string. Intonates well with the wound G and has a loose feel that I like at that tuning.

Re: What would be the right gauge of string for C# standard?

I can use 8-36 in C# on a short scale no problem. Bending is effortless, but you really need to control your right hand (especially on open strings) and you can't press the strings too hard against the fret board either, or accidentally slightly bend strings when forming a chord. If you're style is anything like Malcolm Young's, it won't work at all. If you're more about Brian May with a really light touch, it works.

I get half of my sound from the way I slam the strings. Lower gain+harder pick attack just works for me. But some of my favorite guitar players get huge sounds from light strings and a light attack.

This. I tried C# Standard some time ago, perhaps the most beautiful tuning there is, along with Drop C, but normal string sets don't work. The 56, i found a bit tight for C# too.
First two strings on here could be 12 and 16 too, 'cause 11 and 14 or 15 may feel a tiny bit loose too.
