Its an asian Pine species, Much better suited to Chopsticks or RC planes than to guitars.

What type of guitar are you considering? There's lots of good, bang-for-your buck guitars made of agathis any more.

agathis is pretty cheap. i had an agathis body guitar and the wood was extremely soft. u could push into it with a thumbnail. i would suggest anything over agathis.

hmmm bc rich refer to agathis as "commercial grade mahogany" :laugh2:

i dont think its a tonally horrible wood, i think its only real negative is its softness. Same reason i dont like Basswood i guess. But like JB said it really depends on the manufacturer/model.

I have never used that wood but i do know that Squires that have that wood i do not like...... I sometimes wonder what the body wood is in my Eppi Exployer..... they claim Korina but i wonder.....
