Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

Laney GH50L, Marshall DSL 50, Peavey 5150, or my weapon of choice the Ashdown Fallen Angel

I like loud early punk rock, what amp should I save up to get?

Save up to get? what the hells wrong with you? Saveing up isn't Punk. You Find what you want and you STEAL it, now thats punk. J/k, sorta.

What "loud early Punk" are you into? That'll help people know what ta tell ya.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

Marshall, Marshall, Marshall, it's always Marshall.........Punk Jan Brady.......see below......thats what Da Rmaones used, I do believe. Steve Jones used a Twin with Gauss speakers that he stole from a Bob Marley show at Hammersmith, so the previous comment is actually correct, albeit unadvisable....lol

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

go legal and get a crate amp, that will get chicks at college...save up for college and laundry detergent lol

You're gonna hear a different recommendation from everyone. Bottom line is, the best you can afford.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

I did time in Juvenile hall for stealing a police car on a dare when I was 14,
That was it!, No more stealing for me!
I now work two jobs, go to school and save my money.

I guess I'm not really a hardcore punk these days.
I have no plans to be in a band or nothing like that.
But I still like my old school punk music.
I guess why I want that louder amp sound, is so I can vent some anger?

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

Steve Jones used Twins and Marshalls

You would be surprised how many people secretly use Twins in all of music.

I personally vote ANY tube Marshall for punk. I have played many a nice amp, but nothing is NASTY enough. You could consider an ORANGE, but those are not as nasty as Marshalls.

Get a late 70s Master Volume, JCM800 (any model will do), mayyybe even a DSL. If you wanna pay thru the nose I have some other suggestions for ya!

Consider getting a RAT pedal or even a Big Muff to go over the top.

The 5150 is a nice low priced idea, but I seriously find them to be a metal amp, and NOT very harmonically rich unless you do some work on them. When I say NOT rich, I mean compared to 2 - 4000 amps, mind you (yeah, yeah, I know).

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

Carvin X-amps. They can be found cheap and they will do punk all night long. (Just get the later models with EL-34's)

Yeah I was jokeing anyways.
But really, ANY amp will work for punk. Thats the thing about punk, theres no rules. Not a single one, well not as far as musical equipment goes anyways (and anyone that acts like there are rules, is obviously not punk). Just get whatever ya can and crank it. A small amp can be really ****in loud when cranked, surpriseingly loud actually.
Just go to some pawn shoppes, look around. Find a Decent tube amp (or ss even really), an just try stuff out until ya find sumthing ya like. Pay no attention to brands or anything like that, just find something cheap that you like.
Make sure its sumthing you can plug straight into and get the sound you want though. Punks never really been about super distorted sounds really. Its just a slightly gritty sound that comes across alot dirtyer than it really is. I mean look at the Ramones, or MC5, or The dolls. None of them Really had a really dirty sound, they were all just plugging straight in and cranking it. And it just comes off as dirtyer than it really is, and thats just the aggression comeing through.
If you can find an amp that sounds like you want, without the aid of any sort of pedal (pedals are more grunge or fake 90's punk than real punk), then your goldie. Just Plug in, crank it, and Beat the guitar like you F**kin hate it and want it to die. And you'll have yourself some radical punk tone, and odds are it won't really matter what amp your useing.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

Yeah, Marshall JCM 800 would do ace for punk. Saw Stiff Little Fingers the other night, thats what they were using, sounded awesome.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

I use a JCM800 for punk, i like its simplicity as much as anything else, just crank it up and your good to go. Plenty Noisy too.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

Just get a 50watt marshall DSL...that'l be plenty nasty and will be easy to get tone out of for you, and affordable.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

Do a search and you will find that there is no amp, guitar, or pedal "for punk". If you want to sound like someone specific, we can help you...otherwise you will end up with three pages of different amps. When it comes down to it, anything will do as long as it's loud.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

How many punks does it take to decide on a guitar amp?

Three. One to buy a loud, nasty Marshall and the other two to argue whether Marshalls are punk or not.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

If you want to go a little cheaper if your going the Marshall route try looking at a JCM900 with El-34's. They sound nice with a bit of gain and have plenty of gain for the modern punk if you want that sound too.

Re: Whats a good punk amp to buy?

buy a bass amp and play your guitar through it. true punk sounds like crap and doesnt conform to everyone else's rules (like using a guitar amp for guitars ha!)
