What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

I went on line to Ibanez and they says go through a dealer.
Called three dealers and they said they'd get back to me and never did.
Emailed Ibanez trying to get Super 58 part numbers. No response.
Went to Ibanez forums and got part #s that did not match up when I entered them in the Ibanez parts thingy.
So far my research has been that the SUPER 58 is the preferred one to get.
The CUSTOM 58s have ceramic magnets, and to add to the confusion there was even a Super 58 custom....accckkkk! Some 58s were made in Japan and some in Korea and probably some made in China by now.
I'm looking for super 58s, neck and bridge, gold, alnico 3 magnets, 4 wire
conductors. Does such a pickup exist? If so how do I purchase? Not much of an offering on Ebay either. Any suggestions?

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

There were no super 58s listed on the site.
I did send an email however.
Thanks

I have seen the super 70's on one site

hang on let me see

With all the excellent p'ups you can get from hundreds of different vendors, winders, etc. why in earth are you looking for THOSE p'ups...?

Inquiring minds would like to know...

I've got to agree.

Super 70s I can understand, but I had an original 58 in my old Destroyer and it was anemic city with no character at all. One of the blandest humbucking neck pups I have ever owned. There are much better options if you want a low output PAF neck bucker (BurstBucker1, e.g.)

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

Thanks.
Those parts do not match with alnico part #s....so I don't know if those are ceramics, and don't know if they are 4 wired. Sent email to Ibanez with same inquiries and have not heard from them.

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

hmmm...well from what I've read the Super 58s (alnico 3s) get positive remarks, and are considered excellent. Now I've never played a guitar that had them. This is just from doing a search on this and other forums.
The pickups will be for an Ibanez 2630 guitar.

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

WoW....anemic? bland? that's interesting....other players claim just the opposite....
not trying to argue or anything like that, it just gets confusing when trying to select a given pickup. Each player has their own experience with gear and I guess some like Fords and some like Chevys or hate both. I simply did a search for Super 58s (alnico 3) on this and other forums and most remarks were positive. FWIW the intended guitar is an Ibanez 2630, playing the usual classic rock/blues/country. I'm looking for "clean dirt" with warm tones replacing the current Super 80s which are way too bright for me.

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

I just have that one experience- the guitar was one of the most resonant guitars I have ever owned. Big, loud, and bold, embarrasingly so compared to some much more expensive stuff I've bought previous and since. But the S-58 sounded really lame. A good neck pup should really sing in a Gibson style guitar and it did not in the least. The bridge pup was great- a gotoh/ibby Super Distortion copy if you like such things, but that S58 was a big disappointment after all the hype about them.

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

Thanks for your reply....Now I'm having major second thoughts about the 58...wondering if you had a custom 58? (ceramic)....also agree about all the hype...hard to figure what will work best for me....just because 80% of players like one pick up over another...doesn't mean I'll feel the same way....many SD JB players thought the pick up was trebly....I have one in an old SG and it's very warm and certainly not bright. Who knows? I guess I'm always taking a chance
no matter what pickup I choose. Just trying to minimize the disappointment factor.

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

.wondering if you had a custom 58? (ceramic)..

I believe this pup came much later but I'm not super knowledgeable about all the old Ibby stuff. That guitar was 1981 model.

When I bought the guitar on Ebay, the seller had pics of the pups out of the guitar to show they were original and the bottom label said Super 58. I never pulled it myself to doublecheck, but..

EDIT- and FWIW- Adrian Smith pulled the Super58 out of his 81 DT300 and put a DiMarzio PAF in the neck of his as it became his main live guitar. I'm not trying to convince you one way or the other, just saying I thought the pup was bottom of the barrel at least in that guitar. Maybe in a semi-hollow or something it would be nicer.

The Super 58 part numbers are (Neck) 3PU1H58NG (Bridge) 3PU1H58BG)

These are available from www.guitarpartssite.com for $39 a piece.

Time for a "know it all" old man to chime in. Super 58's? Been playing for almost 50 years. Hooked up with the Super 58 alnico III's 28 years ago and never looked back. Of course it's got a lot to do with taste but for me they are the best humbuckers I've ever used bar none.

Not to much to be found on these but here's a video of a JSM 100 with the 58"s worth listening to. Judge for yourself.

And of course there's the King of the Super 58's. Talk about a beautifully voiced and perfectly balanced pickup.

I have two Ibanez TC825 Talmans both with Super 58s. I love those pickups!

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

I am selling a 100% Original Ibanez Super 58 on Craigslist right now. It came from a 1980 Ibanez AS-50 and has some very cool rock star heritage to it. Let me know if you're interested!

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

I had Super 58s in my Ibanez AS-120 (Artstar 355 copy, not the Chinese "artcore") and I could not wait to get rid of them. Thin and tinny. Sounded much, much better with a DiMarzio Virtual PAF bridge and Bluesbucker neck.

Have you actually heard the '58s and are you sure that is what you want?

I've heard a lot of buzz about the super 70s which were PAF type winds but with alnico 8 mags. There is a local winder here in Nashville that makes a copy of those if you wanted to check those out, http://smitspickups.com/
Go to limited editions, the Super 70s copies are called "Ultra 7Ts"

I highly recommend Kevin's pickups anyway, he's made me some of the best neck humbuckers I've ever heard.

Really. There's so much better out there, and easier to find.

Re: What's a good source for buying Ibanez super 58s?

The Super 70's( I have one) are the premium ones guys want, NOT the Super 58's.
You can get new A8 pickups, but the old Super 70's have aged, and are thus icons. Add to that the fact that the old Super 70's are most likely the pickup heard on most of Van Halen I , and there ya have it.
The new A8 Duncans are for all intents and purposes as good or most likely better than the old A8 Ibanez Super 70's. They just arent old.
Now, I'm thinking the Custom Shop might make a Antiquity A8 Crazy 8 or Alt8 that would blow effin' doors!
