what's a NO-LOAD tone control.....

Re: what's a NO-LOAD tone control.....

According to this site, http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/pots.htm

The No Load tone pot when on 10,removes the load of the pot and the cap.. Once you put your tone control on or around the "9" position, you now return to a normal working tone control... This is a cool mod because you not only gain more high end, but you also get a bit more rawness of tone and slightly more perceived output... The guitar circuit absolutely has no negative drawbacks to having this tone pot in place... On a Strat you can use these pots in both positions..

Re: what's a NO-LOAD tone control.....

If you're skillful and careful you can make one. Remove the cover from the back of the pot to expose the carbon strip connected to the two outside terminals. (the wiper is connected to the middle terminal) Rotate the wiper to where it would be if the pot was turned all the way up. Now you know where to remove the carbon from the carbon strip: right under where the wiper is when the pot is on ten. Take a razor blade and scrape it off so when the pot is on 10 there's no resistive carbon under the wiper...zero! Now when the pot is turned to 10 it'll be removed from the circuit. The guitar will be brighter and more open sounding when the tone pot is on 10 and if you have a bridge humbucker in a Strat the tone will be more like EVH's Strats with one volume control and no tone control.
