What's an Eminence Man o' War?

The latest GP has an article on Chris Poland in which he had high praise for his new Emi Redcoat-series Man o' War speakers. He's also featured in a new print ad for them. Although I've never heard Poland's music (and suspect from what I've read it's not really my bag) BUT from his description, I think I might like the speaker. IIRC, it's a high-power model.

So, even though I feel bad for Eminence every time we do this, which Celestion model is the MAn o' War like?

Re: What's an Eminence Man o' War?

They're similar to a G12T-75. Exactly how similar they are I can't answer as I've never heard them side by side.

No, theyre similar to the Emi Red Ryders. They ae BAD speakers. And I don't mean Micheal Jackson "Bad", but "bad" bad.

Re: What's an Eminence Man o' War?

They're Eminences take on the G12t-75. They're louder, and a bit fuller sounding than the 75's though.

Not my cup o' tea, truth be told. Better than the Celestion alternative, though, at least for me.

Actually the Man-O-wars might be better than the Red Ryders, so I should hold off on my initial comment. Least- I hope for your sake if you get them they are better than the Red Ryders, cause thats what they are supposed to resemble sonically.
Newking unloaded his Red Ryders on me. haha. But to be honest he made me a good deal and I learned alot about waht a good speaker isnt by haveing those Red Ryders. You can always get you money back for the most part on any Emi.

I can honestly say I have no idea what a G12T-75 sounds like, but I rarely hear anything good about them.

The "high power" part made me think the Man o' War might be along the lines of the Classic Lead 80 or maybe the G12-65. Guess not.

G12T-75 is the stock speaker in Marshall 1960s. They have a razor sharp top end that many people complain about.... I think it's because they were designed to work with loud yet dark amps; modern amps are much brighter and if you feed those speakers too much gain they slice your head off.

I've also heard the older 75s didn't have the harsh top end that the newer ones have. I have a set of the Man-O-Wars in a 4x12, and they sound great with my Electric (darkly voiced Brit style amp), but they sound like ass with my Rockerverb 50 (brighter, modern Brit high gain style amp).
