Whats inside my Korean P-90's

My ears have always know that while my stock Tokai P-90's sounded not too bad... that they are not fully up to the job and would need replacing.

But it was only today (after 1 months of owning it) that I actually took the pickups out and had a look at them...

What was inside?

Well 2 long magnets...

The bobbins though... there were made from a soft black 'molded' plastic.. flexible stuff... kinda like what tupperware lids are made from... really cheap looking... I suppose it is a type of PVC.... sometimes notebook covers are made from such stuff...

The tape around the wire is shiny black electrical tape...

the wires just are plastic coated... (no braided metal here)

So I am figuring that the magnets and the pole pieces will have had a similarly amount of 'cheapness' in there construction?

I mean you don't use PVC bobbins and then go putting the very best magnets in there do you?

Do the Seymour Duncan Vintade SP-901's have fiber bobbins? or are they plastic too?

Don't be surpised at the two magnets, p90's are like that.

Don't know if there is such a thing as "very best magnets". They might not be the specific mags to get you an acurate sounding p90 (AII or V) but I don't think they come in grades of quality.

As for the materials, I'll let some one more knowledgeable chime in.
