What's that hole for ??

My guitar's body has this mysterious shallow hole between the neck and middle pickup pockets, a few inches down.

Like the one in this photo:

It's covered by the pickguard.

Not to sound dumb or dirty, but uhhh, what's that hole for?

Re: What's that hole for ??

I don't understand 'aftermarket'. Does this mean it wasn't built by Fender, but rather a company built it for Fender and Fender sold it ?

And it has no functional purpose ? It's just for the sake of identification ?

Re: What's that hole for ??

Fender is The Ford Motor Company of the Guitar Industry.

But I thought she was special and unique. She's just another factory girl.

Oh well, at least she's still hot. And it'll be easier for her to get cosmetic surgery! :naughty:

Re: What's that hole for ??

That is not an "aftermarket" hole as factory Fenders have it. I was told by someone at Fender that the hole was a quick way for plant worker to identify MIM bodies.

This is how I understood/understand it as well. MIM bodies have this hole.

I understand that it's both a CNC registration hole AND a "Made in Mexico" tip off
