What's the best phaser under $100

If you want the classic Phase 90 type, watch for a used Whirlwind Orange Box. Same circuit as the original, better bypass, LED, and 9V DC jack.

I like the Small Stone better than the Phase 90. More chewy to my ears.

You would probably like the Phase 45 better, I think the Small Stone is a 2 stage phaser like the 45, the 90 is 4 stage. This is going on memory, I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

A 2 stage phaser is more univibe-ish.

FWIW, the Phase 95 is $99.95 new @ Sweetwater, probably find one used for ~$75 - $80, but if you have to pay shipping, probably best to just go new with free shipping.

Dod 201.

It’s a two stage phasor so it’s more subtle but that makes it easier to use more often. And yes, I prefer it to the MXR 45 and I love the simplicity of just having one knob.

I got the phase 90, thanks for all the suggestions guys I will think about all of them as I figure out whatever I do or don't like with this one

Deep Phase is more like their version of a Small Stone, which is actually a 4-stage also. Deep Phase also does a 6-stage by flipping the switch.

If you want a Wish You Were Here album phaser then the custon-shop script 90 is what you want.

TNG model is best:

While I haven't built the Lil Orange Phaser, I have built several of the Classic Phaser kits. (I built a couple more using their PCB and sourced my own parts, too.)

The Classic Phaser is among my favorite Phase 90 clones. It can be made to Script or Block specs, even switchable between the two, it uses matched transistors and the rest of the components are excellent quality. By the time you pay for the kit and shipping though, it costs about the same as an MXR Phase 90.

IMO, the BYOC sounds far superior to any stock Phase 90 I have owned, and there have been several. The build quality and tone are right up there with the Whirlwind, Retro-Sonic, MojoHand and VFE phasers I have, albeit without some of the bells and whistles some of those pedals have.

I really like the small stone. It just feels more lush than a phase 90 clean, although I think the phase 90 is a little better sounding with gain.

That’s another cool kit. I’d like to make their Classic Phaser and compare it to my Custom Shop Phase 90. I’ve done the Yellow Overdrive and love it.

It's a worthwhile experience and a relatively easy build.

The main thing to make sure you get right is adjusting the internet trimpot correctly. There is really quite a wide variety of sounds in there and I think that some people just get it to the point where they hear phasing and call it good. You can dial in subtle, watery sounds, deep and chewy tones or vocal-like tones that almost give you a filtered wah sound.

There is a reason I built so many of them. I have one on each of my 5 pedal boards and they are all adjusted to sound different from each other.
