Whats the best single coil set for beefed up strat tones?

Re: Whats the best single coil set for beefed up strat tones?

I like the APS in the neck and middle, and I love the Antiquity 1 Custom in my friend's '57 Strat.

I like the Quarter Pounders, both Tele & Strat.

I like the Duncan Antiquity Texas Hots, Duncan Antiquity Surfers, and Duncan APS-2/Twangbanger combo. Of those three, I think the APS-2/Twangbanger combo sounds the strongest.

I also like the Fralin Blues Specials and Steel Pole 43 set. The SP43 set sounds like a set of P90's...almost.

Those fralins sound interesting, i dont know much about them.

How would they compare next to the stronger duncan single coils such as customs, quarter pounders, and livewire classics?

They're alnico 5 and maybe 5 - 10% stronger and thicker sounding than the original pickups in my '63 Strat. I could say the same thing about the Ant I Texas Hots too, tho they sound differant and have the alnico 2 personality to them. The Fralin Blues Specials are alnico 5 so: less prominant mids than the a2 Texas Hots, bigger sounding bass (& tighter) and more highs, but very smooth.

Lindy is known for winding Strat and Tele pickups to vintage specs...yet somehow they sound stronger, livlier and fuller and not as shrill and ice picky as most.

I use the Fralin Tele Blues Special set in my '54 Tele and used to use the Blues Special neck and middle with a Duncan 59 or JB Trembucker in my favorite Strat...the one that now has Duncan Antiquity Surfers in it.

Lindy and Seymour both wind my very favorite Strat and Tele pickups.

Haven't compared them to the Custom, QP or Livewires.
