Overdrive - BB preamp,

Nice tone, Smooth..... Not too gritty, grainy, and rough.

Distortion - OCD V4, nice dynamics and good response to the guitar's volume knob, Also kinda amp like

Fuzz - Swollen Pickle, Versatile, Thick sounding. Nice tone.

Overdrive pedal Ibanez TS-9 tubescreamer cheap and works perfect for what I use it for, drive my gain channel on a Valveking 212 to get a better sounding distortion.

Distortion pedai is an MXR M-116 Fullbore Metal, they just came out with it. I gave $100.00 for it and it has mid-scoop switchability in it and a switchable and adjustable built in noise gate. For the money it sounds awesome through the clean side of the Valveking.

Fuzz pedal, um.... Sorry don't know or use any.

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

I haven't tried any fancy or boutique pedals, so keep that in mind with these selections.
1.) O/D - Modded SD-1
2.) Boss DS-1 w/ Monte Allums Roxx mod
3.) BYOC ESV, but I would like to try out a Barber trifecta and that may take the #1 spot
4.) Not really into metal, the best I've used was the top channel of a MXR doubleshot (same as the dimebag distortion pedal)

edit: The Modded SD-1 I mentioned as my #1 is very close to the "Eternity" mod mentioned below, except with different diodes in the clipping circuit. I wouldn't call mine crispy, but that may be a function of the clipping circuit. But if you have an SD-1, and some spare time, it's definitely worth a look. Highly recommended.

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

1) Overdrive Pedal - my SD-1 "Eternity" Mod is clear and dynamic, with no TS-style mid hump. Very articulate and slightly crsipy and over-the-top sounding. (The Xotic BB Preamp also quite good if you don't mind the mid-push, and I suspect I'd love a real Lovepedal Eternity, but finances indicate I may never find out.)

2) Distortion Pedal - standard Proco RAT for it's sort of rolling harmonics, like feedback all by itself. The filter knob makes it very verstatile, it can do a decent job faking both a tube overdrive at one extreme and an all-out fuzz at the other. (I also really like Monte Allums' Recto Mod DS-1, much more that the Keeley Ultra.)

3) Fuzz Pedal - I'm not a Fuzz expert, but I suspect I'd prefer Tonebenders and/or Big Muffs over the Hendrix-y Fuzz Face-style pedals.

4) Metal distortion Pedal - after seeing Butnut's hand-painted Metal Muff Nano the other day, I checked out Gearmandude's demo and was quite impressed. Even as a non-metal guy, that Nano box sounded good. I could see uses for it.

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

1) Overdrive Pedal:

A good TS type. My current favorite is the HBE Power Screamer. I have had one before and have missed it ever since letting it go. I have another now and am thrilled.

2) Distortion Pedal:

An OCD is pretty darn hard to beat. I gotta tell ya though the Visual Sound Jeckyl and Hyde is pretty darn hard to beat for a killer OD/ Distortion box.

3) Fuzz Pedal:
I have had many and like a lot about them all. I think I'd ultimately be happiest with the ZVEX Woolly Mammoth though.

4) Metal distortion Pedal:

I play a Fender type guitar w/ singles into a vintage Fender amp. Metal distortion is not my thang man.

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

My favorite overdrive is either the Klon Centaur or the Analog Man King of Tone. The former is the most natural-sounding overdrive to my ears, and the latter, while not as natural-sounding, comes quite close and offers more versatility.

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

Overdrive: AC Booster is just a winner

Distortion: AC Booster again set at higher gain levels, but as dedicated pedal would be the BB Preamp

Fuzz: Keeley Fuzz Head, perfect blend of fuzz and overdrive. Great for Clapton and Hendrix tones. The pedal gives me the tone of my old 5 watt Gibson amp cranked - fuzzy smooth drive. Just makes my big amp sound smaller hehe in a good way

Metal: chhhhhhh ehhhhh chyeaaa nahhhh not for me

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

Overdrive: Bad Monkey --- I have tried a pile of 'em, and it's just plain good.

Distortion: Monte Allums Recto Mod Boss DS-1 --- can do it all.

Fuzz: Nope.

Metal: I use the Monte Allums Recto Mod DS-1 for that. I'm not saying it's the best or not, just that I use it for that.

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

OD/distortion: i lumped these two together because i use two overdrive pedals to get my distortion- the mxr classic distortion and a lightly modded(thanks erik!) SD-1.

fuzz: i need some!

metal distortion: my now-deceased DS-1 was my metal pedal:(

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

Whats your Favorite :

1) Overdrive Pedal - Timmy...it sounds good with everything for everything...it's an "always on" pedal!

2) Distortion Pedal - Dirty Little Secret...it does the OCD thing better than the OCD and then some...also has a JCM800 side! It's more dynamic than the OCD and stacks well with everything you throw at it!

3) Fuzz Pedal - I haven't played very many fuzzes, but i really like my Trifecta. It can be dialed down to sound like a distorted Marshall and it can be cranked up to sound pretty nasty as well but still retains its "musical" sound.

4) Metal distortion Pedal - pedal 1 + 2 + 3 :naughty:

i've never been one to spend a fortune on pedals... so most of my stuff is common Boss and that sort of stuff... oneday i should expand into the more higher audio quality pedals...

but for now...

Fav OD-an old late 70's/early 80's Tokia OD pedal...

Fav-Distortion-Vox Satch... but i want a Diamond Fireburst

Fav-Fuzz-Danoelectro Fab Tone-full sized pedal from 2000-ish amazing fuzz!

Fav Metal Pedal-Boss Mega Distortion-tru some amps it works, thru others it sucks... but when it works it is a great Mesa style crunch on the cheap..

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

1. Overdrive: HBE Big D
2. Distortion: BroTech Fat Pipe Pro
3. Fuzz: hmmm, torn, but I'll have to give the nod to Hartman Tommy Bolin fuzz
4. Metal Distortion: n/a

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

Still seeking favorites...gonna mention what i really really like here...

OD: Bad Monkey is cool and cheap, but I'd spend the extra $50 for a Visual Sound 808 OD...the single pedal is fine but the double one is cool too. Right now I'm using an old Snarling Dog Blues Bawls wah / OD pedal...the OD is like a tubescreamer but gets almost as dirty as my DS-1...replaced my Bad Monkey.

Distortion: I was using a DS-1 forever...eventually modded it and now it has a cool cranked marshall tone and can get into Big Muff territory but i tend to use my new Russian Big Muff more for what i used to use the DS-1 for...

Fuzz: My USA Big Muff makes the sound that's in my head when I think of fuzz. It's over the top and creamy and delicious and awesome. I want to try a Swollen Pickle but only because of the hype...and it's green.

Metal: I like running and overdrive into a Muff to get 'metal' tones...but if you've got PAF's and you're running a mostly-clean to semi-dirty amp and just want a box to stomp on and sound like Zakk Kerry Dimebag King Wylde Darrel then it's a really close race between the Metal Muff and the MXR Full Bore...i give the edge to the full-size MM for having the boost switch but that Full Bore is a great pedal, and it looks rad too.

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

1/2) Boss Blues Driver - sweetest pedal i've ever heard, can do blues, rock, you name it, i love it!!

3) Whatever the Beatles used on Revolution!! (I dont actually own a fuzz)

4) Boss Metal Core - Awesome metal sound out of this beast, and if you roll down the distortion it's a very usable rock distortion as well

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

1) Overdrive Pedal = Zakk Wylde

2) Distortion Pedal = Digitech Metal Master

3) Fuzz Pedal = ProCo Rat turbo

4) Metal distortion Pedal = Digitech Metal Master OR Boss Metal Zone

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

I'm really digging my new Plexitube. Great sounding pedal. Very warm. Lots of EQ options which really shape the sound.

Lessee...

Overdrive - Tubescreamer

Distortion - Plexitube

Fuzz - Zvexx Fuzz Factory

Metal - Plexitube

Re: Whats your Favorite, Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive pedals

Lately I've been using:

Overdrive: Visual Sound Route 66 (compressor + 808 in one box). The compressor side is cool for boost/sustain and the overdrive side ain't bad...but I swear it sounds better on the Jekyll & Hyde pedal, even though it's supposed to be the same circuit.

Fuzz: Visual Sound Angry Fuzz. I'm no fuzz expert but I like it better than my Sovtek Green Russian Big Muff (this pedal has its uses, but overall seems to be a major tone suck).

Distortion: mixing the OD from the 66 with the tube amp set dirty, using the guitar volume to adjust overall.

I don't get a chance to get too metal in my current project, the future may call for more radical clipping...we'll see.
