What's your preference, 50's or Modern wiring for a Lester.

Putting in a set of WB firewaters in my new Traditional.

Also upgrading electronics. At this stage getting modern pots as I like my pots firm, .022 PIO caps and bleed kit.

Getting them wired by a bloke names Jonesy in the States. Here is one of hit harnesses.

This one however has a .015 PIO for the neck pu.

So what do you guys say, do you prefer vintage or modern wiring?

Vintage, but I roll back my volume controls to get cleaner tones.

To me, the Jimmy Page system seems to be a natural for a LP (that would be a vote for modern, very modern).

Which ever's the one that lets me have separate volumes for the pickups while using them together.

Very happy with the RS kit in my Goldie....

the only 'vintage wiring' thing i've tried was the cap between the vol and tone pots instead of across the tone washers, i'm partial to a brighter tone though and was using pretty hot p/ups at the time. only tried it in 1 LP as well.
i think the set-up in that pic will sound good too, btw

Thanks guys, just want the absolute best I can get out of this baby.

I ended up making my decision this way.

Modern flat bottom CTS pots.

.022 PIO caps, I think Vit Q.

Vintage wiring and bleed kit.

Should be good but I will certainly report back and let you know how it sounds when she's all done.

my favorite wiring is a hybrid of modern and 50s tone cap wiring, like this. i get a nice wide tone sweep, and even though it can sweep off quite a bit of highs, i still get a good mid-rangey punch with the tones rolled off similar to the lead tone from "tuesday's gone"

I have that on my LP and I enjoy it. I like having the options.

I have my own wiring schematic, and I suppose that modern :) bits and pieces of the duncan-schematics and some other stuff. when I roll back the volume, I retain my tone, and I dont loose my highs. for that, I've got a great tone pot, with a lot of sweep.
