When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

This is good news. Well....assuming they imroved the voicings that is. Damned if I need more gain. As it is, most of the models on the "chrome" series have far more gain than the original amps do/did. I'm rarely over 1 oclock on the 800, and when I do play the TSL and Soldano models I have those backed off to about 10 or 11 clock. I just don't see how even some death metal or modern metal player with EMGs would need any more gain than the TSL/SOLDANO/Dual Rec models put out as it is.

But I'm all for improved voicings (if they indeed are improved). I'll be checking out the 15w version as soon as I see one.

I dont forsee the blue series coming back. Just a hunch though. I think that they tread (pricewise) on the new Chinese all tube high gainers Vox came out with tis year. You never want to compete with your own products. But who knows

EDIT: OOOOooooo..15w has been upgraded to a 10" speaker and the 30w to a 12". I'll be on the 30W now. I hate 10" speakers.

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

Im going to have to get one of those 30W ones, will it hava a big difference in volume as compared to say a 15W blues jr?? Or, will it still be fairly quiet since it has a SS power section?

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

From what I understand, these are the same as the chrome face amps with tweaked models.

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

Can't say for certain, but I'll bet it has some clean models. It would be pretty rediculous to only have dirty models.

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

Wonder what amp model they went from A/B to class A? sounds pretty inaccurate and untrue to the model'd amp...

also the gain levels were pretty true to life before IMO...

How much gain do you need to give people to cover up their ****ty playing?

the speaker change is a good idea...as i find these amps pretty loud...

But i don't like the idea of making the metal heads happy to sacrafice a already versatile amp..

I'll stick with my AD30VT and my AD60VTH...unless i try em out and am blown away but i doubt it...

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

The Mesa model doesn't sound all that realistic to most people because it's post equalized out the wazoo. Needs some EQ in the effects loop on my amp to sound it's best IMHO. Gotta get the smiley EQ going before it gets better as it's too midrangey and fizzy sounding.

I'm hoping that these amps have better QC than the chrome series amps I've seen. I walked into a GC in Fairfax, VA and saw two amps of different wattage ratings both go up in smoke when they were first plugged in. As a result, I don't really pine for one of those amps unless I got a huge warranty with it. My AD120VTH is good enough really. It fits inside my truck on top of the 2x12 I use with it, so it's plenty portable.

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

The vox site seems to imply that it will have 2 clean channels, and the other 9 will be high gain.

From the Vox website:
These new models include Glass, modelled on the Clean channel of a collectable 100-Watt head named the Overdrive Special; Funked, modeled on a classic American black-faced 2x12 combo;

Buzzsaw, inspired by the British-made 50-Watt head that created the sounds of ‘70s hard rock and metal; Crunched, based on a very rare modded VOX AC30/6TBX Top Boost combo, adding new hot-rodded gain levels and EQ; Thrashed, modelled on a 1983, all tube, single channel, master volume 100-Watt head; Raged, based on the high gain channel of a modern, all-tube 100 Watter, with boosted bass and mid frequencies and even more gain; Modern, a still higher gain modification to the “Modern High Gain” channel, with scooped EQ; Fluid, the UK Modern setting with maximum gain and mid-range EQ, modified to emphasize a vocal-like tone for legato-style playing; Molten, based on VOX’s US Hi-Gain model but capable of even more powerful, heavily saturated sounds, with an Octave effect mixed into the preset; Black, a version of the UK Modern mutated to Class A, rather than Class AB; and Damaged, rooted in VOX’s US Hi-Gain model with more gain and a completely re-voiced and modified EQ to be thicker and darker.

I was hoping they were about to release an updated version of the blueface amps, but this is pretty interesting too.

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

this amp line is interesting.... only modeling tones i've herad that i can say i really like are the High Gain tones.... Clean and Fender like tones i've never heard a Modeler do well enough for my tastes

You really need to hear mine then. It does some pretty sweet clean tones. The blackface bassman and the dumble are the two best clean models it has IMHO. Some of the others are just too similar and are more amps that you semi crank for a dirty sound anyway (tweed amps).

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

I got the idea that they werent increasing high gain models as such but instead adding extra gain stages to classic cleaner amps so they create a brand new amp sound (like an high gain ac30 or similar)

Re: When did the Valvetronix XL come out?

Checking on the vox website and other sources seem to be changing all the models to new thought of 'modded' amps which is a interesting approach for a moddelling. I would like to here this amp alot as something like this hasnt been done other then digitechs morph function not many moddellers stray away the tone that the are trying to model but this is tones of amps that dont actually exist but are idea of what they would sound if u modded some existing tube amps!
