When do you dispose your guitar pick?

Im curious to how long fellow pickers use their pics.

The one to the left is a new one the one to the right is a really worn one. I usually use a new pic as soon as it starts to lose it sharpness, so one long jam session it goes in the trash.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

I don't ever throw them out. Picks just end up retired in the couch cushions or corners of the house. Extremely dead picks like what you've got there end up being used with the acoustic for strumming usually.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

Since I switched to a stainless steel pick for my main axe I don't ever have to dispose of them!

For my other guitars I dispose when they first begin to lose their sharpness though. I like the accuracy of a sharp pick.

I like them. I use 0.3 mm ones from a company called Alice

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

I use Gravity picks, and I haven't worn one out yet on my electrics after months of playing. The thin one I use for acoustic (a .75mm Striker in Standard size) developed a slightly rounded tip from aggressive strumming after several months, but is still usable, if not better. I also have a couple of pre-production models of their new Gold Series picks, and these reportedly will last even a lot longer than their regular acrylic models.

I endup losing them long before they wear down enough to toss, or I save the worn down ones for when the other guitarist in my band doesn't have any at practice or a gig, which is always, and give them to him since he never returns them.

I use Brossard horn or bone picks if they start to round (and that takes a long time) I can file a point back on them and they are good for another year or two. I was using stainless for a long time but these seem to have a warmer tone.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

I use the .88 Dunlop "The Wedge" and I put them in a jar when they lose the sharp edge but I usually buy them by the gross and 144 picks lasts me several years. I also have all sorts of optional . different material picks to use for different sounds or situations. Brass , Zinc ,Petrified Wood , Brazialian Agate , Tek picks , a couple V picks somewhere etc. I have a couple 100 Dunlop Tortex in the bag of everything to give to people that are too stupid to be able to carry a pick to a gig.So basically I keep picks forever I have had some of these for 30 years plus.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

I usually buy a big bag of Ultex picks. When the tip is gone, I dispose of them. Getting used to the blunt pick and then having to readjust to a brand new one is a pita imo.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

I use a sustainable and progressive solution for pick disposal:

I've had 2 children, who find all picks and drop them down the vents.

This has saved me loads of time and energy on pick disposal.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

I resharpen my picks by dragging each edge of the tip across the carpet.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

i basically keep them all and use em too. the rounder ones have a different tone. not as fast but they tend to sound bigger

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

I usually use Fender medium picks and pick with the top corner of the pick. Once grooves start to show I pitch it.

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

Does anyone else use their pick upside down? Striking with one of the top rounded corners?

Re: When do you dispose your guitar pick?

There may be a law of conservation of energy, but there is no law of conservation of guitar picks. I have no idea where they all go. It's like the sock monster, no one knows where they disappear to after you do laundry.

Anthony of StevieSnacks.com does this. I figured SRV must have as well if he does.
