When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

This is a very important tool for me and it helps me decide on what i want. There are many pickups not on the chart with no DC resistance and the little EQ chart that tells how the pickup sounds. Please update this with the current pickups or give us an idea what they closly sound like. I see pickups forsale on e-bay then i come to see how they spec and there is no info on it.

DC resistance and the EQ curve is the most important thing i look for. I dont care to see a picture, i dont care to hear a sample just the little 3 bar graph and the DC resistance. If these things were on the case it would be even better but hey cant make it to easy on the consumer can we?

It would also be nice if the tonechart gave seperate low and high mid readings.

Like this:

Treble
High Mids/Presence
Low Mids
Bass

I'll take a look into it. If you'll post what you're most interested in seeing, we'll get those updated first.

Cool. It would be nice if the Custom 5 got added, and that all three Customs were side-by-side. ;)

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

I agree with the two level mid rating, that would be incredibly helpful

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

DC Resistance ain't that important, however, it would be nice to have the actual numerical values that the "output bars" were derived from.

And for EQ it would be nice to see:

treble
upper mids
mids
lower mids
lows

+1 how long has the custom 5 been a production mod?

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

I agree 100%. I've been looking for more info on the custom 5 also. I honestly had to rely more on info from forum members than info from the "tone charts". A breaking mids out into high and low mids would be great.

On the PLUS side....I really liked your sound clips as the person playing them was playing the exact same thing for each sample. That is helpful...but the clips could be a bit longer and encompass a bit more rhythm playing so its easier to hear the difference.

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

I don't have any problem with the tone guides or soundclips on the websites...

I'm with Artie here, add the C5 and put the custom series all next to one another.

Also breaking the mids down where someone could see the CC's mid spike, compared to the JB's mid spike. Kevine (Kaknight) tried to do a graph like that in Excel a few years ago, it also had an output bar.

Sabina, it's nice to see you on the forum! I hope you've recovered from UGD!

eq and approximate dc resistance of the antiquity series.

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

+1

It would be nice if they showed the numerical values and having the upper and lower mids on the EQ chart would be a huge help. Usually people have to refer to the forums to get this kind of information. Also, the Antiquity line doesn't have a tone chart or sound samples. Why is this?

As people have mentioned, the newer pickups like the Custom 5 and Dimebucker are not on the chart. It would be nice to get sound samples for these as well, but I'm guessing it would be pretty difficult to replicate the exact setup used to record the other clips.

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

DC resistance is important for me. It gives me an idea of how hot the pickup is. So far i like 10k pickups, when i look at the charts i see this but not for all the pickups SD make. I like a medium output pickups so im looking for 10-12k I got 2

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

I agree that the tone chart should definitely be updated. There is relatively little information that a solid bar graph yields about the output of a pickup. Admittedly Dimarzio has set the standard as far as output measurement goes, albeit it can be shown to be flawed on several levels. Perhaps by employing some sort of 'standard' way of measuring output ala DMZ can we obtain some useful quantitative information about a pickup's output.

Suggestions:

1. Peak Voltage in mV
2. RMS voltage???
3. Some method of measuring sustain under a preset amplifier gain??

Just my humble thoughts on this issue.

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

An update would be nice, but I really make do with the specs as they are.

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

The Five-Two models could also be included on the Specs page somehow.

Re: When is seymour duncan going to update the specs chart?

How about specs for the Antiquities.

And it would be nice to have sound clips on the Antiquities, and on the taps.

I found the sound clips very helpful, I bought a set of Alnico Pro II for Tele based in large part on their clips, and they delivered what I thought I heard.

ya i agree the clips are a little highendy, i would like to hear the dirty bridge clips with the player playing on the low stings as much as the high strings, so i can really hear the difference between the pickups. :)

I seriously don't hear much of a difference in the pickups in the Duncan clips. I wish that better amps were used or at least different gain levels so we can hear the difference between the pickups and not the sound of only the amp.

I would also like to see some of the newer pickups like the 5/2 (an underrated pickup IMHO) and the Antiquities in the charts and clips sections.

This doesn't make any sense....by using the SAME amp for the crunch then the SAME amp for cleans it takes the amp's sound out of the equation more than any other method....

I don't see how the Marshall JCM 800 in a good Marshall cab and a Fender Super Reverb aren't high quality amps??

If you start using different gain levels for the clips that makes it harder to tell the changes from pickup to pickup because you are incorporating OTHER changes into the sound.
