I'm a big Dimebag Darrell fanatic, and I know one of the things he always did with his Lawrence 500L's is flip the pup upside down (or is that neckside bridge?) and put it in the bridge position in order to get his tone. My question is, when is it appropriate to do this, and what exactly is the effect on the tone? In general, I want to emphasize the high end, especially harmonics to get that gutsy squeal. I decided to try out a Wilburn Metalbucker, so if there's any special thing I should try out with the wiring or the orientation, I'd really appreciate the advice.
Additionally, I am currently using an SH-13 in my beloved Peavey V-Type. I know that some of the Dimebuckers were made pre-flipped, so I want to know how to tell whether or not mine is. I know the neck pup is in the regular orientation, and the middle position on the switch sounds thin and out-of-phase. This leads me to believe it's pre-flipped, but I need to make sure.
Thank you very much
Dan
