Where can I buy degaussed A5 magnets?

Thread title says it all. Anyone know where I can get a degaussed A5 from?

Reason I ask is because I was reminiscing with a friend the other day and once upon a time I had a very old JB (JBJ labeled) that seemed like it was a bit mellower and sweeter than any other JB I'd tried. I sold it like an idiot because I didn't know what I had. I'd like to get a new JB and try a degaussed A5 in it to try to recreate that sound or at least get close.

Re: Where can I buy degaussed A5 magnets?

Just buy an A8 mag and use it to degauss the A5 yourself. Just a few seconds held together north to north and south to south will do it. If you go too far, recharge with neo disks from Stewmac.

Oh neat... didn't know I could do that.

So I take each magnet and hold them together lengthwise (not edge-on-edge) with the North sides and south sides pressing against each other for a few seconds?

Re: Where can I buy degaussed A5 magnets?

You need a stronger magnet preferably one which do not loose its strength. I would prefer a cheap ceramic magnet e.g.from a generic asian pickup - it will do.
Pressing them lengthwise is okay. If the A5 is already build in, you can also press it against the polepieces. You got the right side of the pup, if you feel a resistance.
Dealing with neo discs is more risky. Just waving is enough with them. If you overdo with neo discs, you can happen to change the orientation. Ouch ...

Re: Where can I buy degaussed A5 magnets?

I still wonder if anyone has used the 40 to 50oz magnets on our speakers for this purpose. I guess it's up to me...

Re: Where can I buy degaussed A5 magnets?

Speaker magnets are way bigger than what you need. An Alnico 8 or ceramic will do the job.

Re: Where can I buy degaussed A5 magnets?

I should have clarified that I meant to use the speaker magnets like the Neo's...

I wonder if speaker magnets aren't the primary culprit in degaussing of pickup magnets...

You set your guitar by your amp and leave it there for a day or two...
