where can you get a custom les paul made?(not the bolt on warmoth stuff, like a glued in neck kinda lp, a lp that you wouldnt know was not made by gibson except for the custom stuff and absence of the gibosn logo, in other words, sounds good)

Re: where can you get a REAL style lp made?

Haha...sorry, but Gibby custom shop, or an Independant luthier, try blueline on the board.

Re: where can you get a REAL style lp made?

The first guy to make a name for himself doing exact recreations of the 59
Les Paul, was a guy named Max.? They're known as Max guitars, but have
the Gibson logo and everything. At first Gibson was flattered, and took no legal action against him. Some of Slash's most revered guitars are not Gibsons, but in fact, Max guitars. I ran into one, when I was 23, at Voltage Guitars on Sunset, but had no means to pay the $3000. Wish I had, because those very rare guitars fetch way more money now. I think he was known as Max to avoid repurcussions from Gibson. I'm quite sure he has a cease and desist from their legal team at this point.

Gibson Custom Shop, Heritage, MCS: Moser Custom Shop or just about any custom shop will do a one off for you. I don't know if any of them will leave their respective logos off though. Why does it matter if it's a good guitar?

Re: where can you get a REAL style lp made?

I just ordered a Heritage. They are really top quality guitars.

they will do lots of custom stuff. Here is what I ordered:

LP Standard style body
Custom AAA maple top with exotic patterns
Custom paint job - violin amber burst
Custom neck carve - assymetric V neck
SD AII pro neck (with nickel cover)
SD CC bridge (with nickel)
Ebony fretboard
1 peice high quality mahogony back and neck

All that with hard shell case for ~$1600

they also do all kinds of other stuff: flame maple pickguards, exotic woods, custom inlays, etc etc.

the best part is that they are handmade by the original luthiers that made the Gibsons back in the 50's and 60's. No kidding! this is the original gibson custom shop staff's work!

If you are interested, I recommend going with Wolfe guitars in FL. Not only was the service awesome, but they got me a killer price that was quite a bit less than my closest dealer would offer me!

Good luck!

I don't understand. Are you trying to get something cheaper than Gibson? Anything custom by any maker is going to cost you more than a stock Gibson Les Paul, m ight as well buy the real thing. There are copies out there cheaper and decent, but custom made is a whole new (and expensive) realm.

kaknight -

That sounds like a killer axe! The price is awesome too!!!

Please let us know how it turns out... I've got almost uncontrollable G.A.S. for a Heritage 535 myself.

Got it. In that case, if money is a concern, Heritage makes a great guitar. I would say Moser Custom Shop again, if you have at least $3000 (I wouldn't have any less than this if I were going to start talking to them) or more. Handmade (really handmade) guitars, great craftsmanship, a company that takes pride in the tone, fit and finish of the guitar, but not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. If you want mahogany, with AAA flame maple etc., you're looking at a lot of money. Tattooedcarrot is right, custom guitars is a whole new realm.
