Where's all the old pedals?

Re: Where's all the old pedals?

The energy I'd spend posting ads and selling my old pedals wouldn't be worth the money they'd make so i hold onto them. I've done a few purges in the past where i had enough redundant or unused pedals that i could drop them off at a store and walk out with a decent check, but that was when i was experimenting a lot more. Now i pretty much know what i like and have plenty of it.

Where have all the pedals gone, long time passing?
Where have all the pedals gone, long time ago?
Where have all the pedals gone?
The hipsters bought them, every one.
When will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

I tend to use my old pedals. My MXR Dist+ and DOD 460 are staples on my live board. I have a bunch of vintage stuff that gets out of the house if the mood strikes.

I still love the sound of my Boss DC-2, but I'd be very happy to find a good-sounding replacement without the headroom problems. I also have an early OD-1, a HD-2 and a DC-3. They are all nice, but not nice enough to justify keeping in my normal rig.

Re: Where's all the old pedals?

Pedals aren't usually worth the cost of repairing, and aren't worth much used, unless they are something particularly desirable. I tend to buy them used, and if I don't use them much, I hang on to them. They don't take up a lot of space, so they accumulate.

I always think, "I might use this someday", and actually I do dig them out now and then.

The stupid thing is, I have pedals I bought ages ago that I really have no use for,but I've sold guitars that I regret selling for peanuts.

Re: Where's all the old pedals?

I only keep the old ones that either aren't worth much (like an early 80s crybaby) or that do things that modern pedals can't replicate. If I can get 90% close with a modern pedal, I'm good- I sell 'em. I don't really collect gear, and I won't hang on to stuff I won't ever use.

Re: Where's all the old pedals?

Ive kept most all the pedals Ive ever had, cept a couple that I passed on to someone that needed em.. keep thinking I should sell some off.

I think as far as the market place, most pedals are either hoarded or thrown out if the get faulty.

Funny, I was thinking the other day what someone in an early post said.. few years back, there were a handful of brands.. now there are ten thousand versions of every pedal.. 50k versions of tube screamer/tube screamer replica

Re: Where's all the old pedals?

I've been buying up certain old pedals lately. Either because I loved them back in the day and regret selling them, or because I've been intrigued and found they were a reasonable price.

The ones below are a perfect example.
