Which Amp For Around $500

Okee dokee... I'm considering which amp to buy. I don't want to spend much more than $500 (can stretch it a bit to $600). I play mainly hard rock/metal but I appreciate nice clean channels. I like higher gain usually. I'm only interested in combos, and they have to be 50 watts or less.

I'm considering the following:

Marshall JCM 800 + modded SD1 for gain

Mesa/Boogie DC 3

Mesa/Boogie F30

Laney LC something

I can't think of any other amps at the moment that are within my budget and ok for what I play. Right now, I'm leaning towards one of the Mesas since they have good cleans and are highish gain. The Marshall combination is a classic though....

What do you recommend?

Get the JCM 800 if you can find one for that kind of cash. Look for one with vertical inputs...they sound better than the later version with side by side inputs. Lew

Screw the JCM, get a Laney AOR. It's essentially a JCM800 with better bass and more gain.

By total coincidence I have a Laney AOR for sale ;)

The bad thing is its 100w and a head. So not what you want on 2 levels! :(

I think it'll be sorta difficult to find what you're looking for, for the price you're willing to pay. of course that's what Ebay's for right? lol

You can find the AOR combos at 30 watts for 250-300.
