Which Amp Modeller?

Hey guys, I was at band practice tonight and I got thinking I might want to look into a POD or similar modeller. It should have good sounding amp models that can go from sparkly clean to all out metal, maybe a few effects, and be a great recording tool. I'm guessing the PODxt is a good start? Any other suggestions? Oh and state price if you can.

Thanks

Re: Which Amp Modeller?

i like my podxtl a lot
it is a floor board unit so it is tough
you can get some nice add ons bogners, 5150s and the such but i havent yet.

it is cool but i just use it for recording and practice with headphones etc, i know people that use theirs straight into the PA!

anyway it and the gt8 are both pretty darn good!

Re: Which Amp Modeller?

I'm a big fan of the Behringer V-Amp Pro.

Rack-mountable and has tons of capacity for configuration.

The only problem is you pay another $50 on top of what... $300? That part concerns me, but is it really worth it?

Re: Which Amp Modeller?

Boss GT-6. The GT-8 is out, but I don't know what it runs. The GT-6 is $300. It has fantastic dirty sounds, great clean sounds....modles something like 15 stompboxes, has all the effects you could want, 5 different wah's, silent tuning....everything. It's easy to use...you can adjust gain, volume, mids, treble, bass ect....just like on an amp by turning the knobs.

I used it on the majority of songs that I've recorded. Click on my soundclips and take a listen. If it doesn't specifically say JCM 800 on the clip, it's the GT-6. I've used the pod and the v-amp, and I prefer the GT-6.

Re: Which Amp Modeller?

I payed 180 used for my PODxt, and that's what most of them go for.

Unless it's the Roland VG-88. :) I've heard a LOT of nice tones coming from XTs these days, but the Roland still rules the ruins. At almost 5x the price, it should, though ...

Re: Which Amp Modeller?

Hehe very true, Ben, very true indeed, on both accounts ;).

Re: Which Amp Modeller?

I second the Roland COSM products mentioned above-
My primary preamp for nearly 10 years has been the GP100-

Not as crystal clear as the newer highbit rates-
But in a mix, I have yet to see anything that matches that sound and the flexibility-
And did I mention..it's 10 years old:)

Re: Which Amp Modeller?

used yamaha dg-stomp ... killer tone ... easily tweaked patches ... cheap price ... all metal construction ...

crappy presets (who uses em anyway?)

good luck
