Which B.C Rich??

There are two models of the BC Rich Avenge. One has one pickup and a smaller body and therfore is only $300. The other has two pickups and has better parts, but is $700. I don't know whether I would be saving money by getting the cheaper one, or losing quality by getting the more expensive one. Any Help?

Cheaper Model-

More Expensive Model-

P.S. I have tried the cheaper one and I really liked it
P.S.S. I mainly use the bridge pickup anyway so I don't think I'm really losing that much.

Re: Which B.C Rich??

The major difference is the neck joint. The cheaper one is a bolt on and the more expensive is a neck through. I could tell you the bolt-on (cheaper model) will never have any resale value....... If you love the way the thing looks and plays, and you really should find a way to play one (the expensive one) somewhere, you are better off shelling out the extra $$.

I might be getting too old, but I see myself accidentally slitting my wrist or something on that things sharp edges :D

If I've learned anything from buying gear and then selling for better gear, it's that it pays off to save and just buy once.

If I was you I would make a list of stuff you want your guitar to have and look for something that already has it/is in your budget.

Re: Which B.C Rich??

don't get the cheaper model, the SOB. i've tried those, and they're nothing to write home about. despite the fact that you probably wouldn't use a neck pickup, the more expensive guitar is just better built allaround, with neck-through constuction and probably higher quality wood. not to mention it's got a licensed floyd:naughty:

Re: Which B.C Rich??

the reviews that i saw for the expensive one were pretty good whereas the other one got rave reviews

Re: Which B.C Rich??

I saw a neck through Mockingbird Special X on ebay this afternoon for $400. I'd get that one.

Harmony Central reviews?

You mean the reviews by all those teenage kids who have been playing guitar for a year or two and bought the cheap BC Rich as an upgrade from their Squier Strat Pak?

As somebody who used to be one of those Harmony Central reviewers, don't waste your time on cheap crappy guitars. I thought my Warlock was AMAZING before i knew anything about tone or what makes guitars sound good...that pointy thing was sold less than a week after my Gibson came home.

Save up and play everything man. Figure out what you want and what fits your style. Save up until you have over a thousand dollars and buy one awesome guitar that's everything you want.

Spend days at guitar stores. Play everything until the dudes working there kick you out...or just be super cool and nice to them and they'll probably WANT you to hang out and play guitar...

I'm not tryin to rain on your parade man, but a $300 bolt-neck guitar is not gonna touch the tone or quality of a $700 neckthru. They're in two completely different classes. Likewise, that $700 neckthru won't be nearly as good as a guitar worth $1000 or $1400...

Granted, if you're just gonna turn your gain up to 10 and do CHUG CHUG PING CHUG CHUG PING all day, you can use any guitar you want. If you want a guitar with some depth, personality, quality, etc....you're gonna have to spend a bit.

Re: Which B.C Rich??

I seriously wouldn't buy that bolt on BC Rich. I also would never stick EMGs in one of the imports.

Buy a neck thru of whatever model you like. The shapes are all window dressing anyway. Swap the pickups out with some Duncans.

Try to get something that at least says it has mahogany body or maple. The ebony fret boards will also be a bit nicer than the crap rosewood they use.

I'm not sure the attraction to the Beast, you like that shape? Check around eBay you may be able to find the same models for cheaper like the Mockingbird I mentioned yesterday.

Re: Which B.C Rich??

The reviews were from Musicians Friend, the site who's link I posted.

I have tried many other guitars and this is the on I felt the most comfortable with. I found another model of the series and I think this one I would spend $700 dollars on. I'm not looking to spend 1000+ dollars right now.

If you don't want to send too much $$$, buy used instead. Guitars with radical shapes like the warlock or the beast don't get a lot of resale value.

Re: Which B.C Rich??

I'd buy the second $700 (WMD Son Of A Beast) before the first if only for the maple body and no fret markers.

Neck through is neck through though..
