Which cheap wood is the heaviest?

There is a beginner-pack 11 years old asian strat copy that is heavier than any of my guitars, even a copy P-bass very heavy. The wood seems hard and clear. Is it possible they made it all maple? what else? iron?

Re: Which cheap wood is the heaviest?

Chances are it's basswood. Alder and maple would cost more. Basswood isn't always the clearest of woods, but if it's a single coil Strat knockoff, then the clarity may come partially from the electronics and shape of the instrument itself.

I think the P-bass is made of basswood (made in india), and it is a bit lighter. I also have a "mahogany" Epi goth Explorer wich is quite lighter.
Not alder.
The owner tells me a second-hand instruments shop owner was surprised by its weight when he took it.

Could be plywood.
