Which guitar to buy?

Hey guys.. I've got the wife talked into some new GAS.. hehe.. She's going to let me get a guitar at 1k or below when we get our taxes.. So, I'm thinking of three guitars.. Two of them I've played and loved and the third I've not..

The first choice is the Musicans Friend, or an Ebay Gibson LP all Mahogany guitar under 800 bucks.. From MF I think they have the all mahogany version with two burstbuckers which I hear are really good for like 750 bucks shipped.. Or I can go to ebay and find a good LP Studio in White or black with an Ebony board which I really like..

Second Choice is a Jackson DKMGT which is the strat like guitar but with two EMG's..81 bridge and 85 neck.. Also under 800 b ucks, and I'd sell the EMG's and probably buy either Dimarzio's or duncans, but probably Duncan Actives that weren't so hot..

Third choice is the Steinburger neck thru guitar .. They have one that has a long scale but with a device so you can change the scale length, but I just want the one that is similar but just Strat scale.. Also with EMG's.. same config as Jackson..

Jackson is most comfortable neck I'd say.. but I'd bet the Gibson or the Steinburger would sound best for the type of music I like.. which is sorta a cross between Zakk and Jeff beck and maybe some Thin Lizzy thrown in.. Any suggestions? Of the three guitars which one would you folks get? I then can have a tad bit of money left over for a good effects pedal or two.. and or I've been wanting a Vox Amp.. the one's with the tube in the power section yet still amp imulator.. That or the floor board version with the tube in the power section going direct to a mixer.. and my PC..

Get that Les Paul, and throw Duncans in (preferably custom shop, you cab explain it to your wife easily..) :D

I have a Fender All Parts Frankenstrat that I bought on Ebay that I love. I stuck a Dimarzio PAF Pro in a single hum pickguard and it rocks. I like a lot of Dimarzio's PAF type pups... but of course love Duncans and other pups too.. My fav being the Rio Grande..

I'll go against the grain and say Jackson SL1. You can get one used on ebay for about $1000. In fact I believe there are 3 there right now for that price. SL1s are better than Dinky's to me but that's me.

Thanks for the advice.. I like the SL1's except for the price and the Pointy headstock.. I love the reverse headstock.. If they had the neck thru with Reverse headstock and no trem I'd love it.. Also, I'm trying to stay around 700 bucks as I can then use the remainder to buy something to use to record, or some pedals, etc.. I'm also looking at this Vox amp that I played which is the best modeling amp I've every played.. Oh, I love Jacksons.. Have always.. after my first love with Kramers back in the day.. I'd love to find a Neck thru Kramer made for the guy in Lover Boy.. Can't think of the name of that guitar, but it was so easy to play and sounded great.. I had one many years ago.. I also had a killer Kramer Stagemaster Deluxe that had an ebony board, JB hum, and two Duncan SL1's I think they were called or SL2's single coils.. Great strat sounds, etc.. but noisey.. but that guitar was so comfortable and sounded great with great sustain and the OFR..

I played one of those Vox amps. They're pretty nice. A friend of Mine has one as well and he's very fond of it.

Good luck deciding what you want. Dinky's aren't bad guitars. Just not my cup of Tea.

Explain one thing though, you don't like the pointy headstock but you like it reversed? Are you schizophrenic? I used to love inverted headstocks but prefer them right side up these days. I've always loved the pointy Jackson headstock but I'm a pointy fan.

hehehe.. I meant that I like the pointy headstock as long as it's reversed... I like it downwards, but not near as much.. I really like the Fender Headstock / ala Jimmy Hendrix reversed a lot.. or the ESP reverse or the Jackson reverse.. or the Robin reverse which is probably the best.. Don't ask me why.. Just do..hehe.. Like the Pointy headstock on V's big time though! hehe.. They point in the direction of the neck though..hehehehehehe.. LOL..

Thanks Man.. Yeah, I'm going to be hunting on Ebay, but I'd just as soon buy a Studio which if I can find one in good shape with no breaks and good frets then I'd like to get one of the older white one's with gold hardware and ebony board.. Right now the Gibson Menace has about everything I want, so if I don't get a really good deal then the menace is what I'll probalby get.. They are like 850.. Have a 60s thin neck, ebony board, cool black in color.. two humbuckers that look like Invadors almost.. big coils.. It rocks.. With some cool pups it would be perfect I think.. and I woudln't be afraid to play it and hurt it..

If you are going to get a studio................get a $1000 epiphone. You can find one. The studios are just like epiphones with the gibson on the logo. Ask anyone.

+1 The Import SLMG is still Neck-Thru and everything and it's a step up from the Dinky for not much more.

out of your choices I say a Jackson. But do you have a Tele? Get one of those if not!! :)
