I 've got Seths in my Les Paul, a buddy of mine has got Alnico II Pro's in his. Personally, I think the Seth is considerably warmer than the Alnico II Pro in his LP Studio.

WOW, i thought the A2P would be warmer than the Seth's ???
Where would the '59s fall into the warm-placings then ?

not as warm as either, much brighter high end

Ah, thanks. I think I've come to the realization that my Epi LP is inherently ALL mids, so with the Seth Lover in the neck, it's a mids overload. I think that's where all the harshness is coming from I've been experiencing. The tone is overly dry too. I originally thought my guitar was too overly bright and trebly.

I have a '59 lying around, but I don't like the extra treble and sparkle or whatever. I wonder if I should put an A5 in my Seth Lover, but I don't want to lose too much warmth, or gain a lot of treble. I'm thinking I should just grab an Alnico Pro II. I'll put it on my X-Mas list, heh.

If it were me, I'd try the '59 if I had one laying around and hadn't heard it yet. Although it's brighter than a Seth, in a mid-heavy LP I really doubt it would have too much treble. Those pickups have always sounded very natural to me in Gibsons and Hamers. They have a nice familiar, bluesy tone that is clear but still warm.

It's possible he has a brighter guitar than you.

it's apples to oranges when it's two diff guitars
