Which is the BEST hardtail?

I'm talking in terms of tuning stability, quality, etc. Is it the Hipshot Hardtail? Maybe the Schaller Non-Trem Roller?

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

i've only used the hipshot and i have no reason to switch. I get better sustain and better tuning stability than i did with my fender hard tail bridge

The Hipshot seems like it'd be easier to manage as well. Thanks for your reply :)

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

alledgedly the design of the schaller bridge (with the screw on the side - locks all the parts together to resonate as one) allows it to have more sustain than a string through

but the reason i'd rather have a hipshot is the schaller is a roller bridge, meaning its possible to lose your settings.. however it also means it'll work with a variety of string widths

i'd rather keep it simple though :)

this thread seems kinda similar :scractch :D

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

I liek the look of the hipshot hardtail, looks simple and reliable, i would love to try a guitar with one someday.

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

I like string thru-body designs on hardtails, so I would go with the Hipshot.

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

Thanks, friends! I was thinking of going with the Hipshot in the first place, so now my choice is reassured. Thanks! :)

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

I just ordered my hipshot hardtail so now I have both :smack:

I'll decide what to do with the schaller when I get back from Greece on Sunday.

Have fun guys, I'm off on a random last minute holiday! :headbang:

G&L Saddle Lock

G&L Saddle Lock

I prefer G&L's saddle lock bridge. They're not flat on the bottom like most hardtail bridges are. They have a block under the bridge, that fits snuggly in a routed out area in the top of the guitar. By protruding into the body, it helps increase tone, and sustain.

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

Sprinter - I agree with you in theory, but where can I get a G&L bridge (without buying a guitar to go with it)?

I looked everywhere I could think of and never did find one.

About the Schaller vs. string-thru, does having the strings run through the body really give you better contact than a bridge that locks everything together as if it were one piece and has 3 long screws going into the body? I don't know the answer myself and am not keen on the roller saddles, but it seems like 3 big screws would produce better bridge/body contact than 6 thin strings.

That Hipshot looks way better though, no matter what!

Any good G&L dealer should be able to get one from G&L. I know of several people that were able to buy them. If you need some help finding one send me a pm.

I prefer a TOM with string thru, I just like the elevated feel.

I might be mistaken, but I think the point of the Hipshot is that the saddles fit snuggly together (with the raised flanges). Maybe not as snug as the Schaller, but that's the goal.

After looking at the Schaller more closely, does it really have roller saddles? To me, it looks like the saddles are solid, and the rollers provide downward tension, making up for the poor angle of the top-mount strings?

Re: Which is the BEST hardtail?

I would like to try the hipshot. I havent tried either.
