I have recently installed a C5 in my strat with a 59 bridge in the neck. I also have a jb laying around also. I run the c5 with a torres eng midrange cut/boost (I know but it seems to work with the C5) which is giving a little of a boost to the scooped mids. So what I have is like a JB with some bottom end. I've been thinking about the JB recently and was wondering what you guys think of these two stable mates? (C5 and JB).

the JB is waaayy more musical and fluid with mega harmonics, and it sings more and every time i play one i feel like i am playing a part of history!
most used pup ever!:bigeyes2:

I've got a few C5's and am very pleased with them in 335's, LP's, and SG's. I just can't deal with the JB's ice pick tone after having tried several in the same guitars.

Well since I started this poll, I installed my JB in my Am Standard Strat with a floyd and pulled it right back out and reinstalled my c5. I like the paf vibe it has and it just sounds "RAW" throughout the register. I believe it will cover almost any style of music (that I play anyway) from blues, rock, metal. It's got a throaty vibe in the lower mids that I just love (not sure if this is a natural characteristic of this pickup or it's the result of the midrange boost I hear). I wanted a versital guitar and with the 59 bridge in the neck, the C5 seems to fit the bill.

Mostly people into the C5 are also into the Custom ,and some prefer that to the C5.The JB is in a diffrent category tonewise .

I didn't like the custom, or the custom, custom and made the C5 from it. I cut my teeth on the JB and have seen numerous post on how folks found "peace" with the C5. I was actually amoung an elete group of folks that pushed for the C5 (which was known back then as the custom, custom, custom, or ccc before it became the C5), ordered one from the custom shop and sold it after a couple of months. My taste in music is pretty much the same as it was then, but when I revisited the C5, it was love finally. I'm sure others have experienced the same.

Re: Which is your favorite between these 2?

I really like the JB -- definitely more "musical" than the C5, in other words, the JB sings while the C5 doesn't. I like the C5, too but I wish it had a more prominent midrange. As it is, the C5 is too scooped in the mids and the JB is too loose in the bottom. I've finally settled on the pups that I will most likely stay with for a long time: SH-1 59 in the neck and the S-Deco in the bridge. To my ears, they are the perfect complement and are exactly what I've been wanting. Now I can die in peace!

The C5 and the JB are both very good.
Both will sound like doggy doodoo in the wrong guitar, though.
Neither is 'more musical'....They're just pickups. Musicians make music.
Find the right tool for the job.

"more musical" is basically jut slang for saying that the pup sings more and has more overtones and is more alive sounding
the C-5 is definitely a dryer/flatter sounding pup compared to the JB and that is not a opinion but a fact

Re: Which is your favorite between these 2?

I love the punchy, open, singing, stand out in the mix qualities of the JB. Best high output pickup I've played. I prefer the '59B to the C5. Can't see why people like it so much. Too much bass, too much treble, not enough mids.

which is probably why I like it. Being dry and flat allows me to dial in "my tone" that lets me be...well, me! Also being dry and flat could lead it to be more articulate under gain. I'm not saying the JB is bad, I'll probably get GAS and swap them again, but until that day, the C5 rules!

hey thats cool, if you like the C5 then i am happy for you and others that like them
for me i felt it had a too scooped tone like a V shape EQ
i could not get the punch i needed like i do with a JB
plus like i said before playing a JB is like playing a legend! LOL!

Re: Which is your favorite between these 2?

I did not vote. I love the JB, and I've used it in three guitars, but I've never tried the C5. At least not yet....
