Which models are sold best?

hi, bros, happy new year!

These two weeks, I have learned a lot about Duncan pickups, and I am thinking about replacing the stocks to get better tones. And I don't think it a big trouble for me to do it myself, since I have watched MR. Duncan's instruction videos.

I am always wondering at what kinds of model are the best-sellers? Anybody knows that?

Thanks for ideas!

Re: Which models are sold best?

The JB is the best seller but, Duncans BEST pickups IMO are the MOST overlooked by the unwashed masses.

+1. When it comes to duncans, you have a lot of options, and the best sellers are not always what would work best for you. Some rarely mentioned pups can be amazing.

Great! Thanks man!

DUncan offers so many models, while I can't try all of them, so don't you think the most used model is always the safest one?

ANy way I know that many big guitar manufacturers sell guitars with JB/59 combo pickups.

How do you think of the audio samples in the Duncan website?

Re: Which models are sold best?

The safest depends on your guitar, amp, reg, and style. What do you have?

I dont have much love for the audio sample from Duncans site or any other. Duncans samples dont ever capture the true personality of the pickup or come close to it. Audio samples in general do not.

What tone are you looking for and what is your equipment.

OH, the JB is usually a love it or hate it pickup in most cases.

Re: Which models are sold best?

While the JB is the big seller, you'll find a lot of controversy over its sound on the forum. I have one in a Hamer USA (came w/the JB/59 combo), and while it's worked ok for some amp rigs, I've found the upper mid spike annoying on other rigs. It probably will be replaced w/a 59...

I agree completely w/Theodie re audio samples.

Theodie speaks the truth. Let us know what gear you have, and what you want out of your sound. That's what I did when I modded my first guitar, knowing nothing about pups, and the guys on here are very good at giving recomendations.

If you can't play em all, just ask the forum, then look at what the folks here recommend. In that case, atleast you will be on the general right track.

Re: Which models are sold best?

Guitar :Epi Les Pual Standard model.
Amp: Marshall JCM2000 TSL100, 1960A.
Effects: DOD 250, and some delays and eqs.

ANy information else needed?

WHich set suit me best then? Thanks, people.

Well, you have plenty of gain w/the Marshall, although I'm only a bit familiar w/Lynch, and not w/the others. My personal preference these days is for a lower output pup through a higher gain amp, so you might do ok w/a 59. However, Duncan makes a number of pups which are variations of a jacked up 59 theme, so you may want to check those. I don't have experience w/them.

I found the JB to really express the upper mid ice pick thing w/my old Marshall JCM 900, and it did not sound good. I like the 59 for a wide variety of music, especially through certain Marshalls, although I haven't used the TSL model. Years back, I used a SD Invader through a JCM 800, and it was great for hard rock and punk rock. However, you may want something a bit more articulate. The Invader rocks, but it's a bit dark for some. It doesn't clean up real well, either.

Re: Which models are sold best?

The biggest question still remains unanswered : What do you want from your sound? What do you want your new pups to do that your old ones did not? What tone are you looking for?

Re: Which models are sold best?

DiMArtini used a JB
Lynch a Distortion
not sure about the other guy.

With a DSl you do not need the output of a Dist. I would go JB since you will want the boosted mids. Just do not use as much gain on the dsl.

Also with an Epiphone Les Paul, I've been hearing a bunch of Duncan users use the Distortion and had great results, but really..its what you want. Keep in mind like your other thread that a member and I talked about Lynch having an all maple bodied equipped guitar. Warren uses an alder bodied charvel with a JB. Alex Skolnick uses an Ibanez S540 back in the day, and I believe his sig models back then had stock Ibanez pickups, but I really don't know what pickup he really uses in his personal guitars then. They all give different sounds so the bottom line is what is the tone and sound you want, before we can answer your question.

Re: Which models are sold best?

I should add that the JCM 900/JB equipped that I found too 'icepicky', well, a friend who plays more in the G Lynch style played through it one afternoon, and he sounded incredible.

Go for the Jazz in the neck and either a Distortion or a Custom in the bridge. The Distortion in the bridge and the Jazz neck would probably be the best choice!

Those would be safe choices for you and your styles.

I have a 900 (2100) with a 1960AV. I never minded the high mids/ice pick thing but, I didnt like the loose bottom. The JB worked great in a maple body Kramer Baretta though. I didnt like it in anything else though. It was just too harsh and loose.
