I'm looking to grab either one of these. Which would you choose and why?

Hopefully, your reasons will be other than pickups since those are easily replaced and, with the Fender, most likely will be.

Um...the FCS...because it't the "real deal"...and it's HOT!!! Nice looking guitar w/some cool features. It'll retain it's value better as well me thinks.

Re: Which one?

Hands down, get the Grosh. In full disclosure, I'll say that I own two Groshes, have played quite a few of them and know Don and his crew personally.

Overall, the fretwork on Groshes is beyond reproach, with the fret ends beautifully rounded off. The choice of woods is meticulous. The attention to detail is just amazing. The guys in the shop are all pros and have been in the guitar-building game for quite some time. The top assembly guy has quite an impressive resume and is a recent new member here, so maybe he'll chime in.

As for that guitar in particular. Wow, it's stunning! Brazilian rosewood board, the 1-5/8" medium roundback neck (my favorite Grosh profile), and three of the new Grosh-wound pickups. The blend control is very cool, too, and I think you'll be amazed by the tonal shadings available with it. The Grosh-modified Gotoh 1088 is a great bridge.

If you want even more info on Groshes and perhaps that guitar in particular, check out the Grosh forum: Grosh forum

The opening bid on the Grosh is really reasonable, too.

Good luck and again, GET THE GROSH!!!

Hmmm, 27 views and only 2 comments... I do appreciate the comments from muttznmongrelz and flieger67 -- thanks guys!

Ok, how about this: I am looking to buy one of these for you. Which one do you want and why? :lmao:

As for me, I've pretty much figured out which one I'm going to get. Just curious as to what you would choose and why you would choose it.

Re: Which one?

Grosh, purely for the old skoolness of it.

I would go with the Grosh..the quality is amazing.

The Grosh is what I'm really wanting. I've done a fair amount of research on Don Grosh guitars and they're fabulous instruments -- the build quality, fit and finish are outstanding! The only drawback is I have to take the bid for $2k or less, otherwise, I'll have to settle for the CS Fender.

Re: Which one?

Fender Custom Shop. For some reason that wood grain showing through the finish just puts it over the top for me. Plus I prefer maple boards.

Yeah, I actually prefer maple boards on a Strat, too. And I'm always a sucker for pretty wood, but I'm doubtful that the Fender can match the Grosh for quality. I'm gonna end up with one of them, so, either way I'll be happy.

Re: Which one?

unless it was a rare case that the fender custom shop absolutely smoked the grosh, i'd go grosh anyday...

+1.

Re: Which one?

Between those particular two, sight unseen I'd go for the Fender simply because the Grosh couldn't be further away in specs than what I like:
1 5/8" nut and a THICK roundback neck?
I'm at 1 11/16" w/about 790-830 thickness and it STARTS at 830...
That alone would be enough for me to stop looking cause as good as it looks/sounds there's no point unless I can also actually play it...
