Which pickup for a EVH Kramer 5150 replica?

I'm about to build a Kramer 5150 replica (alder body/maple neck & fingerboard). I can't really decide what pickup I should put in the guitar, so I'm looking for a few suggestions. Thanks in advance!

First the obvious one...
78 or EVH as it is called.
Or a 59....
Even Seths as they are PAFs....
But that is if you are looking for the old tone!

I already bought the alder body, so alder it's gonna be. I guess I'm not making an "exact" replica as far as what wood to use...but it will be pretty close as far as everything else.

I think I want something that can give me a good all round tone and is versatile. Mainly something that will give me great lead tones. I'm not really in search of the "brown sound" because I don't have an old Marshall tube head I can crank. I play through a 5150 head (first version), a fender ss practice amp and Marshall ss practice amp. More through the practice amps than anything else (I'm just a hobbyist).

Ok, well, then IMO, go for one of the lower output options. The '78 Model and '57 Classic Plus would be a great choice. I use a '57 Classic Plus in an alder Strat with great results. It's quite versatile just by working the volume knob. It's not 4-conductor so splitting is not an option. If you want to be able to split with a push/pull volume, look at the '78 Model and even the '59 Model. The '78 is a Custom Shop pickup so it costs a bit more than the standard production line pickups, but it's worth it, IMO. Another choice from the Custom Shop is the Brobucker. GREAT overall bridge pickup. AC/DC to EVH and everything in between.

What's your opinion on the Custom Custom? Do you think that would work? Some people say it's good for maple fingerboard/Floyd Rose equipped guitars to tame the brightness. I don't think I wanna spend too much...so the 78 might not be an option.

I have also been reading about the Custom (SH-5)...would that be an alright pickup for that guitar?

The Custom Custom would be a great choice. That is what is in the 5150 Kramer. It also splits very well if you plan on going with that option.

Floyds are not as bright as some make them out to be. If you're planning on having it mounted flush with the body for dive-bomb only, it'll sound fine and not be bright at all.

The SH-5 might be a little harsh. In fact, rumour has it that the Custom Custom came about by EVH swapping out the ceramic mag for an alnico 2, and the Custom Custom was born.

Well that's pretty interesting, I never knew that. Thanks for your help!
