this is in debate among EMG users even though the EMG site has the 85 listed as hotter?
I think the 81 has more power through my rig.
anyway the 85 and 81 BOTH are considerably hotter than a tone zone :dance:

yup the emg actives are hotter. as far as 81 vs 85 i think they are about the same output but the 81 is all mids so it pushes the amp harder

Between the Dimarzio and the EMG active, the EMG will boot the DiMarzio's ass into next week.

from what was in my schematic of my 85 it said that the 85 is 3v and 81 is 3.25 v peak output

I am asking because i ran across a review in harmony central where somebody was saying that the tone zone beats the 85 outputwise. Now, i have tried the tone zone in the past( and did not like it) but what i remember is that it had even less output than the JB (which surely has less output than the 85). Maybe i did something wrong during the installation?
