Changing the volume pot from 500k to 250k will make an irreversible, ie., "non-adjustable" transition to less highs.
Changing the tone control from 500k to 250k is the exact same thing as running your guitar with the tone knob at "5".
Why not try that for awhile first, and see how you like it. You can always roll it back to "10".

Good advice here, but you're dealing with an audio taper pot ... NOT a linear... so the halfway point (0~10 that is) will be at 7.5, that's roughly 250k to ground. Either pot will change the over brightness, although there are differences between changing the volume pot (damping the pups resonant peak) and the tone pot (rolling off more highs on a slope). Oh well, I guess i couldn't stay 20~20k forever... well 50~ 15k is most adults I believe ... Crap! :yell:
Don't feel bad, I just found out I have some hearing loss above 10k ... and I was careful ... oh well that I can live with, now everytime I listen to music I find myself intentionally turning down the high end to make myself listen, and notching 2k out (that upper mid low treble is the damaging frequency range).ArtieToo said:Ooops . . . yup you're right. :smack:

From your post on the Guitar Shop Page, it sounds like you're using a solid state amp that isn't sounding so good! You might want to get your amp in order before altering your guitar, because your guitar might just be fine as it is. Lew

Pots Pots Pots.....the BIG dif. is a 250k is smoother going down and up and a 500k one provides no subtle changes in the volume....it goes from 8 to 80 with a little twist. It always depends what volume you play!!!!! If you're gonna crank the volume on ten then both sound the same.....I've tried 250 and 500k and on 10 they sound just the same. My advice is if you want less brightness tweak your amp and not the guitar.
