Which SD is like a Burstbucker Pro?

Re: Which SD is like a Burstbucker Pro?

I'd say a 59 as well.

Pearly Gates. The '59 doesn't quite sound like a BB Pro. It doesn't have enough output or mids. The BB Pro has slightly mismatched coils like the PG, so it gets that airy quality to the mids that both pickups have.

The 498T and 490R are not really close to the BB Pros. The 490 series have more ouput and are a little more cluttered sounding. The BB Pros are more vintage sounding and a bit more mids. This is just from my experience.

He didn't say anything about the 498T, which is a different animal, a medium-high outputter along the lines of the Custom Custom. He only mentioned the 490R, which is voiced kind of bright like the 59.

Yup..PG or PG+

To my ears the only similarity in tone a 59 and BB pro have is they are both bright.

The 59 has much more bass response, low mids and is "tighter". The BB pro has much less low end, and a preponderance of high mids the 59 doesn't.

I'll throw my vote in for the PG+, the for some reason, the PG+ has more mojo.

Re: Which SD is like a Burstbucker Pro?

I think the reason that many have said '59 is because both the '59 and the BBPro have a5 magnets. A2 magnets have a very different sound to me. Even though it is *technically* a Fender pickup (Duncan obviously makes it), I think the PG+ and the '59 are about as close as you're gonna get.
