which single coils with my '59 bridge humbucker?

I just istalled the seymour duncan '59 bridge humbucker in my godin sd, but it's overpowering the stock single coils, middle and neck...My next step is to buy a couple of single coils that might match the 59's tone...it's classic rock with pretty high output...it really whines....which should I buy? I'd like to stick with seymours...

Personally, I would go with SSL-1 vintage staggered and compensate for output with height, or go with a pair of Custom Staggered pickups.

Ditto. Though the 59B may still dominate the vintage style SSL-1 a little. That's always a problem when mixing a humbucker with single coils. If you go hotter than the SSL-1's then you lose the vintage accurate Strat tone we all love.

However, since you said you'd like to match the bridge 59's tone, maybe you'd like a pair of Little 59's. They'd be humbucking too. That combo might be just what you're looking for!

I hate to suggest non-Duncans, but Fender Fat 50's mate very well with Duncan humbuckers, since they're still vintage sounding, but have a bulkier sound. That's why most of Fender's Custom Shop HSS guitars feature that combo.
Sometimes, if the polarity between the humbucker and singles isn't the same, you have to use the black and silver as ground, and the green wire as hot....solder and tape down the red & white.

I'll go with the ssl-1 as far as strat chimeyness and an alnico 5 magnet. However I'd also suggest going for flat polepieces. They make a slightly fatter sound and being they're flat you'll be able to raise them closer to the strings.

I'm a fan of the APS. The alnico 2 magnets are warmer and not as stiff sounding as the A5 magnets. Also, they have more midrange than the ssl-1.

Hope that helps man! Good Luck!

Luke

P.S. Godin's are great guitars aren't they? :)
