which speaker for my big Laney combo?

I need a speaker that'd give me more headroom, (a 50W for instance...), tame the treble and thicken the mids some, with hopefully a tighter bass.

Right now there's a Celestion 12H-35, never heard of that model before... I'd rather go Eminence as they're very well priced and I'm very happy with the Legend 105 I have in my smaller Laney combo.

The amp is a Laney AOR 30 combo. Basically a one channel amp with boost, and a boatload of gain. It's basically a hot rodded JCM800 preamp, with a 2X6V6 power amp.

So given my needs and the fact that this amp is more British voiced, I should probably go for a more American biased speaker to smooth things out right?

Not familiar with the Eminence line, but a Celestion G12-65 is exactly what you're looking for. Expensive but great.

The Tonespotter would be the Emi version which I keep meaning to try but keep finding others along the way. The C rex sounds like a killer speakker too.

How about trying running a speaker cable from the AOR combo to the speaker in the VC15?

Just to take it for a test ride. The price is right too.

Oh it's got a speaker in right now. The VC15 has a 10'' which I love for clean and punchier ODs, but the amp as a hole doesn't take pedals well. The big Laney does but has no headroom... will need to work on that!

I thought if you ran a cable from the AOR to the Legend in the VC15 it may give you a taste of what a Legend would sound like in the AOR Pierre.

Ah ok... dunno... 12'' vs 10''... I actually used to do that from the VC to the AOR's speaker a while ago! The VC 15 doesn't have a speaker plug though, it's all internal, I couldn't have done that.

Yeah, if it is hard to get to it may not even be worth the time.

There are currently (4) 12" Legends you can purchase. There were other models in the past. One of the current 4 may float your boat if you don't find what you want in the Cannabis Rex.

I am glad you like the 10" Legend in the VC15. It is a bit of a forgotten speaker. I thought it would be worthy of testing.

I try to follow how that little AOR is treating you. Anibas, a member of many other forums, has a 30 watt AOR's and is more in tune with what works well with them. It is a bit of a different animal than the 50 and 100 watters. I currently have (2) of the 50 watters and (2) of the 100 watters.

Well right now it's farting out on the bass... I replaced the main filter cap, by one with the exact same spec, so I don't know if that's the issue or not. Tomorrow she's getting the new speaker, and tomorrow or the day after I'm replacing the 4 big electrolytics (15uf/450V) by new 16uf/475. This should give me slightly more filtering and I think one of those has leaked anyway so they need replacing.

If the issue is anything else, I'm screwed.

I know money have been tight Pott. I think that has been a factor with the AOR.

I don't think you are screwed by any sort, but I guess I will have to say a little prayer for you in regards to the AOR and your progress.

If you get stuck, Anibas may have a fresh direction to try. He's worth a PM to.

I know he is in TGP and HC, and I believe he is on Plexi Palace.

But, you never know Pierre, the C-Rex may be just the thing. I'm just looking to give you further resources.

Nah that sound problem isn't the speaker. It's something else. The speaker will help tame the mids and treble and give me slightly more volume i.e headroom, which this amp really needs. Thanks a lot!
