Which Strat pickups to try?

When I bought my Strat it came with the Tex Mex pickups. (Alnico 2 or 5?) I found them to be a bit too bassey and the high end was too thin with no real "push." I have'nt played my Strat in a long time but I'd like to give a go at it since I bought a DRRI a few weeks ago. I don't have a clue what to try but I know I'd like something that's going to compliment my amp. All I know is I'd like something that's not overly bassey and something where the high end has a bit of push to it without being ice-pickey. My Strat has a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and I have no idea what the body wood is. I'm open to all and any suggestions. Thanks.

The Tex-Max pickups are Alnico 5...try a set of Alnico II Pro's or a set of Texas Hots...they will have a little less bass that the Te-Mex, the treble will be a bit softer and it will have more mids. If you want a bridge pickup with a bit more kick look at a Twangbanger or a Texas Hot Custom bridge...good luck!

Mike,

Based on my experience, my favorite SD strat pickups next to the Antiquity line are a calibrated set Alnico II Pro staggereds. IMHO, they are warm, but not too bassey or muddy sounding.

I just installed my Texas Hots and haven't wired em in yet. Order them at music123.com, only $70 for each. They look AMAZING, the aged look and feel and Seymour's signature make it look rediculously cool. Can't wait to see how they sound. From what I understand, it should be nothing short of divine.
