Hi does anybody know any information about the white Jbj’s sh-4 from the 80’s/90’s? Where they are from guitars etc, as there only seems to be black ones online…why was there so few made? Cheers for any help! Dan
Yeah, they weren't limited editions or specific to a particular manufacturer. They had to be special ordered by dealers, but they weren't particularly "rare", just less common.
Fewer were made because the primary demand has always been for black pickups. In fact, black or cream (or black/cream combo) were the only options for a long time. Other bobbin colors, like white, came along much later in the production timeline.
White could have happened if there was a guitar model that came with white ones from the factory. Of course, the owner would have had to decide they didn't like the JB and swap it out, and then sold the pickup. That's a lot of steps that would have to happen. Of course, they could have been custom ordered with white bobbins, (and then eventually sell them) but that would be a rarity, too.
